Thank you for confirming your attendance at DAO UTokyo. We look forward to welcoming you on the campus of the University of Tokyo at Fukutake Hall, February 6-7. The conference is close to capacity with 60+ confirmed attendees.
We’re now scheduling talks and forming panels on Days 1 and 2 based on their Policy or Research Focus, as below:
Day 1: Policy Focus. Web3 policy efforts, successes, and challenges throughout the Asia-Pacific.
Day 2: Research Focus. The role cooperatives, open-source communities, and DAOs are playing in enabling equitable ownership, in addition to the hurdles (legal and otherwise) they are facing. Non-DAO Web3 research is also welcome.
We’d like to invite you to be a speaker to share your expertise with our audience. Please respond by November 16 with your preference:
- (1) Lightning Talk: 5-minute talk on any of the topics listed above. Your talk title and optional slides can be provided later, but please let us know if you’d like to speak on Day 1 (Policy Focus) or Day 2 (Research Focus).
- (2) Panel: A 30-minute panel on any of the topics listed above. Please propose to us your panel idea(s), and we’ll match you with the most appropriate panel.

2024 DAO UTokyo Conference
February 6-7, 2024
Overview
DAO UTokyo is a two-day conference that will bring together practitioners, policymakers, and academics to engage in conversation regarding the research, legal, and policy considerations of DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations) as well as the greater Web3 space in the Asia-Pacific. DAO UTokyo is modeled after the 2023 DAO Harvard Summit and co-hosted by some of the same organizers.
- Day 1: Policy Focus. Day 1 will feature lightning talks and short panels by participants from a range of institutions to discuss Web3 policy efforts, successes, and challenges throughout the Asia-Pacific.
- Day 2: Research Focus. Day 2 will feature lightning talks and short panels on the role that organizations such as cooperatives, open-source communities, and DAOs are playing in enabling equitable ownership, in addition to the hurdles (legal and otherwise) they are facing. Talks on non-DAO Web3 research are also welcome.
Call For Papers (Optional)
Attendees have the opportunity to submit English-language papers of up to 10,000 words on their topic of choice related to the theme of Web3's Evolution: DAOs, Other Innovations and Adjacent Technologies for publication in the Stanford Journal of Blockchain Law & Policy. In case of interest, please prepare to speak briefly on your abstract during your DAO UTokyo talk.

Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to DAO UTokyo at The University of Tokyo, a conference focused on the various research, legal, and policy questions raised by Web3 and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations. This conference is co-hosted by The University of Tokyo’s Blockchain Research Initiative, the Stanford Cyber Policy Center’s Program on Governance of Emerging Technologies, and the Decentralization Research Center.
DAO UTokyo is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, to Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, at The University of Tokyo. All sessions will be conducted in English.
Please visit our conference website for a rough outline of the two-day event. The final agendas for each day will be added to our site and sent out soon.
We hope that this gathering will stimulate dialogue and strengthen the community around these topics.
The event is in-person and by invitation only; invitations are non-transferable.
