Chiddix Clubs
2025-2026
Art Club –
- 1st Semester ONLY - 7:45am - 8:30 am AND/OR 3:45 pm-4:30 pm on Wednesdays.
- For 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders. Limit 30 students.
- Fee: $40 for the semester per person (covers the cost of all supplies). Checks made out to Chiddix Junior High
- Sign-up packets will be in room 119 the first week of school, including during the evening Meet-Your-Teachers nights. Look for signage in the Art Room.
- There will be an afternoon field trip to Uptown Normal and the ISU Art Gallery in early November. Date TBD. *chaperones needed (see packet for sign-up).
- An ART SHOW will complete our club at the winter Orchestra concert in our school cafeteria. Date and time TBD.
Bible Study – Mr. Broach
- Meeting times are 7:45-8:35 AM the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month in Room 316.
- January-May
- Will discuss several topics about the Bible through discussion and supplemented videos to encourage more in-depth understanding of the lessons.
Bit by Bit –Mrs. Goss
- Meeting times are 3:45-5 PM starting September 18th in October in Room 308.
- October- April
- Bit By Bit is a computer science club for any student interested in STEM or computer science. Students can expect to be taught about different programming languages while developing leadership skills, valuable experience, and teamwork skills.
Chess Club –Mr. Phillips
- Wednesday from 3:45 PM to 5:00 PM. September 11th through March 1st in room 307.
- Students learn about chess strategies, play games, and eventually we will send a team to the IESA State Tournament February 28th and March 1st.
Chiddix Book Club - Mrs. Glatt
- Meetings are usually two Thursdays per month from 3:45-4:45.
- This book club will start by exploring books on the Rebecca Caudill list and then we’ll decide as a team which books we will read together throughout the year
- Additional book-related games and activities will take place throughout the year.
Drama Club –Ms. Meszar
- Meetings are from 3:45 - 5:30 PM. First meeting is September 12th in the Cafeteria. They will meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month
- This is an extracurricular activity for all 6th-8th graders. The purpose of Drama Club is to give students an opportunity to learn about acting, play production and stage work.
- After auditions, the members will consist of two groups--the play cast and stage crew.
- Fee: $45 (this fee covers the production costs and a drama club t-shirt)
Dungeons and Dragons-Ms. Meszar, Mr. Mellen, Mr. Marquart
- Meetings are from 3:45-5:30 PM. First meeting is September 5th in the Cafeteria. They will meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.
- This is a weekly meeting for students who want to learn to play one of the most famous table-top roleplaying games, Dungeons and Dragons, or for those students already playing who want to improve their skills.
- Students should bring their own chromebook to the meetings.
- September - May
eSports - Ms. Anderson
- Wednesdays 1-2 times per month 4-5:30 pm in room 118
- This is a club to expand students understanding of eSports and prepare them for the high school level
- Students will learn proper practice and techniques through high school mentorship and will participate in an Intercity competition later in the year
- 1st Semester dates are 9/25, 10/9, 10/23, 11/13, 12/18
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) –Mrs. Carey
- Meetings are the 1st Tuesday morning of each month (7:30-8:20am) and the 3rd Tuesday afternoon of each month (3:45-4:30). This starts Sept. 17th at 3:45 and will be in Room 207.
- This is a club that encourages Christian spiritual growth through fellowship, games, and lessons taught by fellow Chargers.
- Food and drink donations gladly appreciated.
- You don’t need to be an athlete to attend. All Chargers are welcome to come share the gospel and promote Christian Fellowship. All meetings are open to all Chiddix Chargers.
GSA – Ms. Scorzo
- Meetings are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Friday of the month 3:45-4:45 in Room 209. First meeting is August 22nd.
- August-April
- For all 6th - 8th grade students.
- Fun community gathering time to share our thoughts and talk about topics related to LGBTQ diversity, tolerance and acceptance.
Honors Orchestra - Ms. Meszar
- Meetings are from 3:45-5:30 PM. Beginning date August 27th in Room 113. Meets after school every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month.
- Available for all 7th and 8th grade students. Available for 6th grade if they are taking private lessons.
- Starts August-May
- Performs 2 concerts during the school year (November, May)
- Opportunity for students across grades to perform music together that they traditionally do not have access to.
- Strengthens music theory skills!
- Fee - $25 (Covers a T-Shirt and Snacks)
MathCounts –Mrs. Goss
- Meeting times are 3:45-4:45 PM in room 308 - Beginning October 9th. Please pay attention to announcements for more information.
- October - March (once a week)
- All students that decide to join Chiddix Math Counts will be given the opportunity to engage in mathematics in ways that are both fun and challenging.
- Members who qualify will compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers through local and state competitions.
- Fee: $40 per person (covers the cost of entry fees, snacks, and t-shirt), checks made out to Chiddix Junior High School
Racquet Club - Mr. Broach
- Meeting times are 4:00-5:30 PM on Wednesdays. We will begin at Anderson Park.
- All students can participate. This club is for ALL levels of racquet sports players from advanced to beginners. There is no cost for participation in the Chiddix Racquet Club.
- We will start with tennis and explore other racquet sports such as pickleball, badminton and ping pong.
Speech Club-Mr. Broach and Mrs. Hopper
- Meeting Times are either Tuesday Mornings from 7:50 to 8:35 AM or Thursday Afternoons from 3:50 to 4:30 PM. Students are requested to attend one session in preparation of the IESA Speech Contest.
- There is only one IESA Speech Contest and that date is Saturday, November 8th.
- Students participating in Speech must pay a $30 fee, with checks payable to Chiddix JHS. (This covers the cost of performance scripts, practice prompts, and contest entry fees.)
Star Wars Club-Mr. Williamson
- Meeting Times are 3:45-4:45 PM every other Thursday in Room 103 beginning September 12th.
- During meetings we will have trivia, movie clips, games, and crafts all relating to the Star Wars Empire.
Student Council
- Meeting times are Friday mornings 7:35-8:35 AM beginning 09/06. Room 311.
- Late September - May (once a week)
- There is an application process in mid-September if you are interested in being considered for this club.
- This is an organization conducted by students and supervised by the sponsor. This club is the voice of the student body at Chiddix and helps to share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community.
- The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects in addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare.
Team Quest –Mrs. Hinshaw
- Meetings are every Monday alternating between 6th grade one Monday, and 7th/8th grade the following Monday from 3:45-5:15 in Room 313.
- The club runs from the beginning of September to the the end of March.
- Team Quest is a club designed to challenge students to demonstrate their academic ability, engineering skills and creativity along with promoting teamwork.
- Fee - $20 for the school year (covers the cost of materials and snacks)
