Present: Helen Darrow (President), Stacey Wicksall (Director), Gary Crane (Financial Officer), Carol Deys, Nancy Simpson (Secretary), Steve Hanrahan (Vice President), Chris Harris (Treasurer), Christina Henley, Sandy Pagano (Town Board Liaison) and June Hamell (Scribe).

H. Darrow, President, called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Macedon Public Library to order at 6:35 p.m.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA, FEBRUARY MINUTES, BULLIS REPORT (PREREAD), DIRECTOR’S REPORT(PREREAD), FRIENDS/CRUMPL REPORT(PREREAD), ABSTRACT REVIEW: RESOLVED, on motion by S. Hanrahan to approve the above named reports with a second from G. Crane. Motion carried.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT: The Director reported that the she and J. Koberlein have been posting a lot of information on our social media feeds. More and more people are following the library on Facebook and Twitter. S. Wicksall, J. Koberlein, H. Darrow and M. Bartels attended the 2017 NYLA Advocacy Day in Albany. There they met with Bob Oaks’ assistant and Pam Helming. Both legislators and Governor Cuomo received the shamrocks (88 total) on which our patrons had written to explain why they feel fortunate to have this library and they both also received scholarly articles detailing the 30 million word deficit that occurs in those children who are not fortunate enough to be read to and communicated with before starting kindergarten.
APPROVAL OF EXPENDITURES: RESOLVED, that payment be made of claims 34-42 of Abstract 3-2017 inclusive in the amount of $7,796.37, on motion made by N. Simpson and second by C. Deys. Motion carried.
UPDATE ON TOWN LIBRARY FINANCIAL RECONCILLIATION: S. Pagano reported that she is still working with the designated restricted gifts and to streamline the process of awarding the interest from those accounts.
TOWN LIAISON: S. Pagano reported on social activities in the Town: April 22 1-3 PM – Open house at the former Village Hall; March 31 6 PM – Naming of Youngman Way; May 20 – Festival on the Canal; May 29 – Memorial Day Parade in Macedon Center
Policy: H. Darrow reported that the Policy Committee has continued through Personnel, Operations and Financial sections of the Policy Manual. The remaining sections on Collection development and other miscellaneous items are next up.
Referendum: (S. Hanarahan & G. Crane) S. Wicksall created a Facebook video explaining the facts; G. Crane, H. Darrow, and S. Wicksall attended a school board meeting to share their request. Note that this is not a part of the school budget.
Trustee recruitment: (H. Darrow) Discussion regarding possibilities and because of individuals going off the board we are looking at a goal of 9 trustees.
DIRECTOR EVALUATION: H. Darrow passed out points she gathered for Director, Staff, Board evaluations to be read and commented on for the next meeting. Both Director and Board evaluations should be done in November.
PROMOTING OWWL2GO E-BOOKS: S. Wicksall encouraged everyone to promote.
REFERENDUM AND ANNUAL REPORT MAILING: RESOLVED, on motion by G. Crane to recommend the Macedon Public Library send out a mailing in support of the referendum with content to be approved by e-mail and not to exceed the amount of $2000. S. Hanrahan seconded the motion and it carried.
READING FROM THE TRUSTEE HANDBOOK: Trustee Duties and Responsibilities was read.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMING: S. Wicksall shared two programs. April 22 at 12:30 p.m. we will have a fundraiser to raise money for Green Angels. Cost is $1/person. An Alternative and Holistic Health Fair will follow from 1-3 pm. She also shared a co-op type program for fresh produce.
ADJOURNMENT: RESOLVED, that the meeting adjourn at 7:47 p.m., on motion by H. Darrow and second by S. Hanrahan. Motion carried. The next meeting will be April 24, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the Library.
