It is my dearest wish to surprise my husband^[1] with a copy of your painting of his deceased father, His Excellency Count Bohuslav Chotek [11319].

Therefore I am approaching you with the request

to copy this so very well accomplished portrait and am asking you to name the price which you would charge for this. I would be so happy if this heartfelt wish of mine – to have the beautiful picture copied by the master himself – could be granted.^[2]

Would you be so gracious and have the painting ready by August? I would like to give this copy of the picture, which so enchanted my husband and which he would so fervently like to have,

Es ist mein größter Wunsch meinen Mann mit der Copie Ihres Bildes von seinem verstorbenen Vater Excellenz Graf Bohuslav Chotek zu überraschen.

Ich stelle daher an Sie die Bitte,

dieses so vortrefflich gelungene Portrait zu copieren, und ersuche ich Sie mir den Preiß, den Sie mir dafür stellen wollten mitzutheilen – ich wäre so glücklich wenn es mir möglich sein würde, diesen Herzenswunsch von mir, das schöne Bild vom Meister
