General Pre-Conference Information

Traffic Alerts

The city of London will be conducting roadwork on Fanshawe College Blvd. When arriving to the Pre-Conference, proceed to the Cheapside Street Entrance and proceed to Lot 10; avoid entering from Oxford St. to Fanshawe College Blvd.

Registration will be available throughout the conference for your convenience. Below is a comprehensive list of registration times and locations for STLHE 2016.

*If you register during the Pre-Conference, you do not need to re-register for the main conference.

Parking

Complimentary parking is available at Fanshawe College in Lot #10 for all pre-conference participants on June 21st, 2016.

Conference Shuttle

Conference shuttles will provide transportation to the following Pre-Conference venues:

Please note: This schedule is tentative and may be subject to change. There are no shuttle buses from downtown hotels to either Fanshawe College or Western University. For both the Pre-conference at Fanshawe and the main conference at Western, registrants can drive to the venue and park for free or take a taxi. Delegates who drive to Western will park near Ontario Hall, and can then catch a shuttle bus to the Plenaries. Once registrants have picked up their registration packages, there is a London Transit bus pass included as another option for travel from downtown hotels to/from the conference venues or restaurants.

Network access will be provided to all pre-conference registrants. Please use the following network key and password for access:

Eduroam

Eduroam will be available on the Fanshawe Campus.

The organizing committee suggests setting up and testing a Eduroam connection on your device before you leave for London.

What to wear

Although it can be quite warm in London in June, the conference rooms will be air-conditioned, so you may wish to bring a light sweater.

The conference organizing team has created an interactive Google Map for the conference. It includes locations of conference hotels, conference locations on Fanshawe & Western campuses, a selection of restaurants and local attractions.

Pre-Conference Schedule

The pre-conference schedule is available in two formats, hardcopy and digital. A program booklet will be provided at registration while a digital version is available through Sched.org. Please note, Sched.org orders presenters alphabetically, not by primary author and additional authors.

Using Sched.org

Beyond viewing session and presenter information, Sched.org allows attendees to create their own custom schedule by signing up for sessions. Email your personalized schedule to your inbox, view it using the Sched.org mobile app, or integrate it with iCal for access on the go. For how-to instructions, check out the Sched.org Help Centre.

Information for Pre-Conference Presenters

The following information is specific to those giving a Pre-Conference session.

Moderation & Support

A moderator from the STLHE volunteer team will be in the room during the research and interactive presentations. The volunteer will be your first point of contact to help you with room setup and will be familiar with the classroom technology. If additional tech support is needed for any reason, IT volunteers will be also be stationed nearby. Volunteer moderators will ensure that presentations begin on time, introduce the presenter(s), keep track of time, close the session, and pass on any relevant announcements to attendees. Please share the timing cues you would like to receive when you meet your session moderator.

In addition, tech support is available by contacting the HelpDesk at helpdesk@fanshawec.ca or by calling ext. 4357 from any landline or 519-452-4430 ext. 4357 from a cell phone.

Supplies at Hand: Presenter Caddies

Each presentation room will be outfitted with a presenter caddy containing supplies such as pens, whiteboard markers, post-it notes, sticky tack, masking tape, and bottled water. These supplies can be used by presenters during their session. Please return any unused supplies to the presenter caddy at the end of your session for the next presenter to use.

Room Equipment and Technical Supplies

Each presentation room will be equipped with a whiteboard, standard podium, a PC rack computer equipped with 2 USB ports, an A/V projector, and projection screen. An HDMI cord, VGA laptop-computer hookup cord, audio cord and clicker will also be provided. In addition, either a VGA to HDMI adapter, or mini display to HDMI and mini display to VGA, are available. Some rooms, but not all, have a SmartBoard available for use.    

Editing Session Information on Sched.org

Pre-Conference Session information is now available to delegates through Sched.org. By logging in, presenters can use Sched.org to edit their profile and session description as well as upload files for sharing. Travelling around London

London Transit

Throughout the city, London Transit is convenient and provides direct transport to and from Fanshawe and Western campuses and to the downtown core. Tourism London is providing all STLHE 2016 delegates with a free transit pass for the duration of the conference so that participants can travel to and from the conference with ease and can explore the various cultural and recreational activities that the city has to offer.

The Interactive STLHE 2106 map offers bus route suggestions for travelling between downtown hotels and Western’s campus (select the Transit checkbox). The London Transit website also offers a trip planner with maps and schedules. To access real time bus information and schedules from your smart phone, download London Transit apps for iOS and Android devices.
