CCPS Library Schedule

Helpful Information

Library classes will begin on Monday, August 18! Second grade will begin checking out books the week of the 18th. First grade will begin checking out books on Monday, August 25th. Kindergarten will begin checking out books on Tuesday, September 2nd. Students will have the opportunity to check out books every week.

What will my child do during his/her class's library time?

When each class comes to the library, they will have a short story time or lesson. During this time we have lots of fun reading and learning how to use libraries and information. They will also swap books during this time. After getting a new book in kindergarten and first grade, students will choose a center to go to. These change often but may include coloring a character from a book, researching on a computer, doing a puzzle, examining a terrarium, learning to code, and much more! Second grade students will participate in activities related to our study for the week. They will also have opportunities to independently read and participate in varying learning/STEM stations.

How many books can my child check out?

Kindergartners may check out one book at a time. First and second graders may check out two books. They will swap books on their class’s library day or they may swap during an open time any day. Kindergarten and first grade students will bring their books home in a "CCPS Library" book bag. These bags are meant to protect the books while traveling to and from school in your child's backpack. Please send the books back to school inside the bag they brought them home in. Second grade students will not use a library bag to transport books to and from school.

How can I help my child get the most out of a reading experience?

The most important thing you can do is read with your child. Read to your child or listen to him/her read their new library book each week. Ask questions about it. Ask why he/she chose that book. Remind him/her to have clean hands when reading, use a bookmark, and be gentle with the pages.

When is my child's book due back?

Your student’s book is due back the day his or her class comes to the library. If it is not returned on library day, he/she may return it any other day and get a new one. If it is two weeks overdue, you will receive a reminder note in your child’s take home folder. There are no overdue fees, but your child will have to return his/her book before he/she can get a new one.

My child's book is damaged or lost. What should I do?

Let Mrs. Nix know as soon as possible. If it is damaged, please return it (if reasonable) and she will see if it can be repaired. Books lost or damaged beyond repair will have to be paid for in order for your student to get a new library book. We are now a cashless campus, so you may send a check or pay on the school website for lost/damaged library books.

Meet Mrs. Nix

Hello! My name is Hilary Nix, and this is my seventh year at CCPS! I am very excited for a fun filled year of reading and learning! I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Library and Information Studies, and I am a National Board Certified Library Media Specialist. This will be my 11th year as a Library Media Specialist and my 13th year as a teacher. I am married to Josh Nix. We have three children, Harrison (13), Hayden (13), and Hadlee (8). I absolutely love reading, technology and adventures with my family!
