The Atmore Story:
The Atmore Memorial Trophy is named in memory of Dr. William Atmore and his son Mark Atmore. Dr. Atmore was one of the original founders of the Duluth/Superior Alpine Club and also a past president. He served for many years as a member of the National Ski Patrol and medical advisor to the Mont Du Lac Ski Patrol, and to the Central Division of the Western Region of the National Ski Patrol. His devotion and commitment of energy to skiing were unexcelled to a point that it could only be understood and truly appreciated by another skier. Mark represented the Duluth/Superior Alpine Club in regional and Divisional USSA races. He received the first letter ever given for skiing at Marshall High School (then Cathedral) and was later to become the Hilltopper Ski Coach. He later was a member of the Spirit Mtn Ski Patrol. The dedication of this race to Dr. William Atmore and Mark is a tribute proudly presented by the Atmore family to ensure that their unselfish devotion to skiing and ski racing will always be remembered.
