The children will learn about some ways in which Thanksgiving has changed over time.

How are they celebrating differently?

  1. The teacher will ask the children what do they know about Thanksgiving Day.
  2. Read aloud “The First Thanksgiving.”
  3. Display a picture of our Native americans and Pilgrims, and a picture of how we celebrate Thanksgiving now.
  4. Have the children compare the two pictures.
  5. Ask: What do you see in each picture? How are the celebrating differently? How are they the same? Why do many people eat turkey at Thanksgiving?

  2. Have the children tell how do they celebrate with their families.
  3. Discuss the different ways people might celebrate Thanksgiving in our community.
  4. Ask the children the following questions: How do you think your friends will celebrate if they come from a different culture? (Include different foods or not celebrate at all) How is their celebration different? How would you celebrate with your friends? (Share the different foods from our and their culture)
  5. The teacher will read aloud the poem “Let’s celebrate! 
  6. Have the children repeat the poem and  the Word Thanksgiving Day.
