  1. Display the Big Shares Book, Old MacDonalds.
  2. Ask the the children what animals we been talking about.
  3. Have the children identify them.
  4. Lead children to note that there are many ways animals are alike. (They all live on a farm)
  5. Tell the many ways they are different. (Some have two legs and some have four legs)
  6. Have the children describe the animals.
  7. Compare the characters in “The Lion and the Unicorn.”
  8. Ask: What creatures are mentioned in the rhyme? How are the creatures the alike? How are the creatures different?
  9. Experiment with the keyboard of a piano to compare the different sounds a the keyboard make.
  10. Compare sounds.
  11. Distribute Activity P. 27.
  12. Have the children identify the animals on page 27.
  13. Remind children that they have been comparing animals by their characteristics.
  14. Have the children compare two animals.
  15. Ask: What animals are we going to compare? How are they alike? How are they different?
