  • Identify things in the natural environment that are important to one’s self.
  • Describe common characteristics of oceans.

What are oceans like? 

  1. Ask the children what the Earth is made of.
  2. Have the children look at the pictures and describe how an ocean appears from the surface and how it appears underwater.
  3. Have the children name the ocean animals they see.
  4. Display map to locate oceans.
  5. Explain to the children there are two types of water: fresh water and salt water.
  6. Ask: What kind of water is found in the oceans?
  7. Have the children look at pictures.
  8. Have the children answer the following questions: What are oceans like? What do you think you will see if you go snorkeling? What things do oceans have that are useful to people? How can we protect the oceans?
