| - Read aloud “I Have All I Need.”
- Have the children name t needs and wants mentioned in the poem.
- Help the children define as things we need in order to live, and wants as things they would like to have.
- Have the children suppose that the class is planning a camping trip. Ask the children to name things they think we will need for the camping trip and sketch on a chart paper and create a scene.
- Help the children in naming basic needs(food, shelter, clothing) and wants (camera, marshmallows, guitar).
- Ask: Suppose we found out that we we packed too many things. What should leave behind?
- Help the children crossing off unnecessary items.
- Help the children see that food, clothing, and shelter are important for us to survive, and wants are things that would be nice to have but we can survive without them.
- Display Big Book 3, Lesson 7.
- Ask: What are the things that Mercedes need? Why? Are these things the same things that you need to live? What are the things Mercedes want? Are these the same things you want ? Are these things you need in order to survive or live?

- Ask the children: Can you name some of the food you see in the pictures? Why we need food? Do you think these meals are healthful, or good for you? Which food is your favorite food? How do people get the foods that they need? What do people use to buy the food they need?
- Make a bar graph to compare and contrast the children’s favorite foods.
- Have the children tell which was the class favorite food and lease liked food.
