  1. The Western Great Lakes Open begins on Frid and continues through Sun.  Schroeder has a big contingent racing in this mid-summer classic. Host LAKE has posted lots of pertinent information.

  1. The Central Zone Open Water Championship is on Sunday in Pleasant Prairie, WI.  Schroeder has four athletes racing in the Sunday 5 KM.

  1. ACT Prep Class with Instructor Fred Silver:  Rising Sophomores and Juniors and potentially soon to be seniors who are looking to improve their ACT score may be interested in a one-week series of classes to be offered at the WSAC the week of August 12 - 16 either mid or late afternoon for about 1.5 hours per session.  If you are interested please contact Dave.  If there is enough interest we’ll run a class.  Mr. Silver has helped numerous students improve their test scores over the years.  The idea of working on ACT prep doesn’t sound fun to anyone but our athletes results speak for themselves - not fun but worth it.

  1. Schroeder Super Stars Mitchell Friedemann and Ellis Miller will help out at two practice sessions with Schroeder’s younger swimmers after they race at World Championship Trials this week in Indy.  Mitchell and Ellis are NCAA All Americans and raced at the 2012 Olympic Trials.  At Wilson Park Monday evening and at WSAC Tuesday evening.   Should be fun - don’t miss!

  1. Join the team at the Ball Game!  The Lakeshore Chinooks are the local Northwoods League team for Semi-Pro baseball - top college players from around the USA.  It’s fun, low key and cooler by the lake in mid July at a really nice field in Grafton.  Each ticket gets you in the game and a ball cap and $5.00 goes back to the WSAC.  ($15.00 per ticket) Swim Team, Dive Team and Masters all to be included.

  1. Group 3 parents and athletes: please check out the weekly blogs by Harmilee and Dan.  They are packed with good information and weekly training updates.

2. Attention Parents:

Now that we’re training at Wilson Park, it’s necessary that only the swimmers are allowed on the pool deck.  Parents can sit on the other side of the fence and watch practice.  This has to do with United States Swimming insurance rules, and the request of the Wilson Park guard staff.

3. WI Silver Championships July 19th - 21st

This important meet is the championship meet of the season for all swimmers not attending the state meet, as well as the final opportunity for the non-state swimmers to qualify for the state championships.  All non-state swimmers and swimmers with less than 6 state times are expected to attend this final meet.  This is the event the swimmers have been training for all season, and we’re really looking forward to seeing how much they have improved.  The entry deadline is July 3rd, but please sign up as soon as possible.

4. Schroeder Swim Team Latex Caps Now Available:

Schroeder South coaches now have latex team caps available for $4.00.  Coaches will have them at practice and at meets.  If a swimmer wears a cap at the meets, it must be a Schroeder team cap.

5. Mini-Meet Swimmers of the Meet:

After each meet, one swimmer from SSTY South Group 1 and one from South Group 2 will be acknowledged as the Swimmer of the Meet.  A number of criteria will be considered for this honor, including meet performance, practice attendance, improvement, sportsmanship, positive attitude, swimming an event legally for the first time, etc.

Congratulations to Annabelle Hoth from Group 2.  This was Annabelle’s first meet, and her strong practice attendance really showed through.  Ella Sparks is the Swimmer of the Meet from Group 1.  Ella dropped 2 seconds in her 25 freestyle, and 8 seconds in her 100 individual medley.  Way to go Ella!
