The 1st International Conference on Mobile Learning and Computational Thinking Education, based on App Inventor was held from June 13th to June 15th, 2015, in Guangzhou, China. More than twenty renowned scholars from USA, UK, France, Scotland, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan attended and made keynote. More than 300 participants from all over China attended the conference.

The Bureau of Education of Guangzhou Municipality, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and South China University of Technology (SCUT) co-hosted the conference. The main theme of the conference was “Education Innovations in the Mobile Internet Era”. The program contained topics on “Mobile learning: computational thinking, education and intro computer science curriculum”, “Mobile learning: computational thinking, training and innovations from industry”, and “How App Inventor can nurture innovative and computational thinking in students”.

During the Opening Ceremony, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the School of Computer Science and Engineering in South China University of Technology, and Guangzhou Education Information Center signed a Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing to collaborate for an initial period of two years on the creation of an educational Center devoted to teaching mobile computing application development for schools in China.

The conference was a great success. It was reported by many news media, which includes China Daily, China Youth Daily, Guangdong Radio and Television station, they reported that the conference is “academic gathering and a diversified feast for the mind” and “a significant milestone in the history of education development in the Mobile Internet Era”.
