A Disaster Story
by Orestis Chatzigeorgiou (10 years old)
I was in a village in Sicily on holidays a year ago. I was alone exploring the forest near the village when I saw a big mountain in front of me. It was huge. Suddenly the sky became darker; big black clouds came down all around me.
A second later, I realised that the mountain wasn’t a mountain. I t w a s a [1]v o l c a n o!
And it was about to erupt! I couldn’t breathe! I ran back to the village to warn everybody. Then there was a big earthquake. It was really difficult for me to run. It was like nature was trying to stop me. When I arrived to the village the volcano erupted! People were running for their lives, children were crying and the dogs were howling. Animals and people were in panic. I was terrified. I knew I was in trouble so I ran up a hill. I thought I would be safe there and I was safe at last. When the lava came really close to the village, I saw a baby trapped in a house. I didn’t have any choice but to run down the hill, into the house. I saw the baby crying, I was a little boy! I held him in my arms and I got out. I went back to the hill and looked around for the baby’s parents. Fortunately,I saw the baby’s mom and I gave him to her. Then she thanked me.
Afterwards, the village became a big pool of lava. I felt sad but I was also proud because I saved that baby boy.
