Unit 3: Activity 3.7 Evaluating “My” Political Party
Begin by taking a political ideology quiz. The purpose of taking the political ideology quiz is to measure where you stand on issues of importance in our national dialogue. The quiz is unscientific; however, it brings up many current issues of civic importance and lets you know a bit about where you stand politically. In addition, the quiz will let you know which political party you may identify with. The quiz does not mean you must be a part of this party, or agree with this party, it simply means that based on your answers you align with the ___________ party. If you are unsure on what some of the questions are asking you can do independent research, or ask your teacher.
After taking the quiz, and getting your ranking, go to Project Vote Smart’s listing of political parties and find the party that would be close to your ideology. Unless you know a specific third party that meets your views, use the Democrats or Republicans. Visit the parties website and be be prepared for a partner and class discussion on:
Now, turn to a neighbor and discuss what you found from the list above. If you are an online-exclusive student, have a discussion with a parent/relative/neighbor/someone you can have an insightful discussion with.
The purpose of your brief discussion is to discuss in a civil manner the impact “your” political party has had on previous elections, but also on the public policy formation process. Your discussion should focus on:
Your brief discussion is designed to be informal and simply a way to vocalize what you learned on your political ideology quiz.
You will do much more with political ideology when you complete your Subunit 2 Summative Assessment Elections Project.
