Executive Editor, Girls’ Night In

Girls’ Night In is looking for a part-time executive editor to lead all editorial operations for its leading popular lifestyle newsletter. This is a unique and fantastic opportunity for an experienced editor to shepherd the newsletter toward even more growth, and to bring in even more devoted readers. Girls’ Night In was founded in 2017 on the principles of slowing down and taking care. Now, nearly 6 years later, that mission is still going strong—and is ready for a new leader to bring a fresh perspective and lead the charge!

This role reports to the Founder.

Editorial Responsibilities:

  • Edit all newsletters, including both line editing and bigger picture structural edits.
  • Spearhead and map out editorial calendar. This includes launching new series, planning any themed newsletters, and keeping a close eye on seasonality.
  • Track reader feedback and use insights to inform editorial planning.
  • Oversee and manage PT writers, producer, and future audience development manager.
  • Foster relationships with freelance writers. Recruit and onboard new writers for GNI, and edit all forms of freelance writing (ie regular newsletter content, guest edits, other potential essays, etc.).
  • Maintain consistent GNI content tone & voice.
  • Manage editorial and hiring budget.
  • Be an active partner to PT sales director to answer questions and approve any larger sales deals with editorial components.
  • Edit and oversee all branded content.
  • Act as the leader and steward of the GNI brand, implementing improvements and fresh ideas.
  • Maintain regular check-ins with the Founder, elevating any issues, ideas, or support as needed.

Audience Development Responsibilities:
Encouraging thoughtful dialogue and connection with our readers is paramount to GNI.

  • Maintain active reader engagement through newsletter initiatives and direct correspondence. Communicate with readers and respond to feedback.
  • Ensure all emails are hitting performance targets.
  • Build audience development and growth strategy alongside PT aud dev manager.
  • Oversee long-term strategic initiatives as well as giveaways, link swaps, etc.
  • Oversee social media (primarily Instagram) strategy and content.

Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years digital lifestyle media editorial experience. Preferable if this is a mix of both large and small publications.
  • Familiarity and deep experience with email newsletters from all angles: writing, editing, producing, optimizing, etc.
  • Knows how to assign and edit freelance writers. Already has a network of strong writers.
  • Experience collaborating with sales, marketing, and social roles.
  • You’re an empathetic and creative leader who values diversity and inclusion in hiring and editorial coverage.
  • Is a major self-starter and is comfortable working with little oversight – this is your show to run and to make sure it is running well!
