Madagascar Fundraiser

Where in the World is Madagascar?

Pastor Tom and 10 other people from our church are going to Madagascar in July. Why? Because we have a sister church there led by Pastor Sylvain Manjomana, father of our former Pastor Hoda. The village where his church is located is called Tsiombe. The village where the Lutheran school is located is called Amboasary.

The people of Tsiombe get water to drink, bathe, and cook by walking three miles and then carrying it three miles back home. That’s like walking from Gloria Dei church to Graul’s Market in Cape St. Claire and back. They need a better water system. The mission team from Gloria Dei will be going to help build a new water system. But the village of Tsiombe doesn’t have enough money to pay for the water supply system. What can we do to help? The village of Amboasary doesn’t have enough supplies for their school. What should we do?

In the Bible Jesus tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves. But the people in Madagascar aren’t our neighbors! They aren’t even in this country! It’s hard to understand that people as far away as a 17 hour plane ride can be our neighbors. But ANYONE in need is our neighbor.

Our 2013 church Lenten Project is to raise money for the much needed new water system and school supplies for our sister church in the village of Tsiombe. Look for our display board and collection jug in the Narthex. Please make checks payable to Gloria Dei with “Madagascar mission trip” on the memo line.

Thank you for supporting this year’s Lenten Project.
