Executive Director of Operations

General Description

The Executive Pastor is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of church staff, leading all functional areas in the accomplishment of the church’s mission. This includes outreach, evangelism, missions, arts, pastoral care, group life/biblical community, adult ministry areas as well as strategic planning, finance, administration, human resources, and operations.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Support the Senior Pastor in the accomplishment of the church’s mission through ministry effectiveness evaluation, discernment, decision making, planning and overall direction of church staff.

  1. Lead the assigned ministry staff and volunteers in the establishment and ongoing direction of ministries that effectively reach the church’s demographic, insuring the accomplishment of the overall mission.

  1. Ensure the operational readiness of the church through leadership and oversight of the support staff performing duties in administration, finance, human resources, supply, and facilities management.

  1. Establish and maintain a set of key performance measures (KPMs) that provide the Senior Pastor and church staff with ongoing visibility of the effectiveness of assigned functional areas of the church.

  1. Ensure church buildings and grounds are kept in good condition, continuously able to support ministry activities through developing and directing volunteer teams.

  1. Lead activities of all operations ministry team leaders, ensuring smooth and seamless weekend service and special event logistics.

  1. Regularly identify and follow up with potential operations team leaders as needed to fully staff operational needs.

  1. Lead periodic operations volunteer training sessions and development activities ensuring the operations organization continuously delivers the desired operational performance.

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Must have a bachelors degree in business administration or a related field with the ability to manage business and fiscal affairs, supervise personnel and direct facility maintenance activities.  Familiarity with typical Christian church program activities is desirable. This position requires a minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience as a senior leader in a corporate business or Christian environment. The successful individual must have a proven track record of effective leadership, judgment, and above reproach character.
