De László rejected this first attempt at painting Madame Loudon, making scratches across the canvas. It was later rescued and restored by a member of the family. A second portrait [6234] was started immediately and finished to everybody's satisfaction, signed and dated 1908, in which year he also painted her husband, Jonkheer Hugo Loudon, completed 1909 [6227].
