Just back from the Dell and I wished my pen could describe the joy and admiration of our old uncle

when he saw your picture [6942]. I had asked him not to spare me and tell me his honest first impressions and he said “I cannot find any fault. I had expected a lot but not this. If you hang it next to any old Gainsborough, Romney of Reynolds

it will hold its own. It is a work of art etc etc.” This only reflects a fraction of his admiration and he said to me frequently you should come and see it here for yourself. I think a part of this is his wish to tell you personally what he is feeling. My husband^[1] and I

went over in person to unpack it and my husband’s joy was also indescribable and he could hardly tear himself away. On our way home the stars in the night sky were witnesses of his joy. I hope the waves of all these happy and pleasurable feelings will reach you and make you realise

Lieber Herr Laszló

Eben komme ich von der Dell + ich wünschte meine Feder könnte Ihnen erzählen wie groß die Freude + die Bewunderung unseres alten Onkels ist, die er beim Anblick Ihres Bildes empfunden hat. Ich hatte ihn gebeten mir schonungslos seinen Eindruck zu sagen + er sagte mir eben: „ich finde nichts daran auszusetzen. Ich hatte viel erwartet, aber das nicht. Hänge es neben irgend einen alten Gainsborough, Romney oder Reynolds + es wird seinen Platz behaupten. Es ist ein Kunstwerk, etc. etc..“

Dies alles gibt Ihnen nur matt seine Begeisterung zurück + er sagte mir verschiedentlich, Sie sollten doch kommen + es selbst hier sehen. Ich glaube dabei sein Wunsch dabei ist, Ihnen persönlich zu sagen, was er empfindet.

Mein Mann und ich gingen gestern Abend noch persönlich hinüber um es auszupacken + meines Mannes Freude ist auch unbeschreiblich + er konnte sich gar nicht von dem Bilde trennen. Auf dem Nachhauseweg mußte der sternbesäte Himmel noch Zeuge seiner Freude sein. Möchten die Wellen all dieser frohen + beglückenden Gefühle bis zu Ihnen hinüberschlagen + Ihnen wieder einmal zum Bewußtsein bringen welch köstlicher Schatz + Freudenbringer in Ihrem Zweifel [?] lebt.
