A3 - A school improvement plan. An A3 is a structured problem solving and continuous improvement approach, first employed at Toyota and typically used by lean manufacturing practitioners. A3 refers to a single sheet paper. This is where the process got its name.

UBD - Understanding by Design
Understanding by Design, or UbD, is an educational planning approach. In Elmbrook a UbD is a curriculum document that lists by grade level what kids should know and be able to do. UbD is an example of backward design, the practice of looking at the outcomes in order to design curriculum units, performance assessments, and classroom instruction. UbD focuses on teaching to achieve understanding.
