Dear Mr de László,
Lieut. Meher [sic] Mahomed Khan of Maler Kotla whose portrait [1833] you painted for Mr. Chamberlain[1] leaves England tomorrow to rejoin his appointment on the Staff at the front. If you are giving him a print of the picture would you kindly send

it to me here & I shall have it carefully packed & sent to its destination.
I am glad to hear that you & your family have got to the country for a time. London is not an ideal place in this heat.
Yours sincerely,
J.R. Dunlop Smith.

I have delayed answering your kind letter of the 11th until I could report the arrival of the copies of the print. These have come this morning & I send you my cordial thanks for the copy you have so generously given to me. It is a striking work

I have sent his two copies to the Sirdar who is now in Egypt.
Yours gratefully
