Saturday
My dear Philip.
I am on board this ship which left Trieste at midday and at 8.30 I arrive at Lussinpiccolo, the capital of the Island Lussino. I have been there over 35 years ago and I hear it is still a quiet, unspoilt place.
I am very grateful to you for the great sollicitude in giving me advise [sic] as to stay in Venice. But, all my arrangements were already done, my trunks on the way to Lussino etc. But, however, I should like to study at Venice, the place is irritating my nerves; I want trees and shrubs and flowers to be happy and I cannot stand any more to live on the pavement. But, I will go to Venice another time to work.
I will see how Lussino suits me as a residence, and I will spend all my time in wor-

king; of course I ought to have regular teaching, but I tried last in the cities of Italy to study, but I couldn’t stand the climate.
I cannot write [more?] as this steamer is so shaking, all I want to say dear Philip is that I was extremely happy to see you and many thanks for your kind hospitality. Forgive me that I am sometimes nervous, but my homeless life the last 35 years have overwrought my nerves.
I hope next year we meet again. I will write more when I get to land.
I hope Apponyi’s portrait [possibly 2596] [illegible] well and you will have a happy time in Paris.
With love | your old friend
Vilmos
