During the 2013 legislative session, Sen. Patrick served as the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He also chaired the Senate Finance workgroup on Public Education funding.

As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Patrick voted in support of increased education funding on March 13. Additionally, he voted for the restoration of education funds in the Senate on March 20.

Under his leadership, the Senate Finance Committee recommended an increase in funding for public education while making schools more accountable and efficient.​
