“魏无羡死了。大快人心!”

"Wei Wuxian is dead. Happiness!"

“Wei Wu Xian is dead! What satisfying news!”

“Great news! Wei WuXian has died!”

“Wei Wuxian is dead. Rejoice!”

“Everyone rejoice, Wei Wuxian is dead!”

“Wei Wuxian is dead! How gratifying is that!”

“Wei Wuxian is dead! Everybody celebrate!”

"Rejoice, Wei Wuxian is dead!"

乱葬岗大围剿刚刚结束,未及第二日,这个消息便插翅一般飞遍了整个修真界,比之当初战火蔓延的速度有过之而无不及。

The mass graveyard encirclement and suppression had just ended, and before the second day, the news spread all over the realm of comprehension, which was faster than the spread of war.

The encirclement of the unmarked burial grounds has just finished, and it is not yet the next day. Yet, this news as if bearing wings has already made its round of the cultivation world, spreading faster than the war did.

Less than a day has passed since the siege in LuanZang Hill, and the news spreads through the cultivation world as if it sprouted wings, surpassing even the speed of warfare.

The great siege at the Mass Graves had just ended, and before the second day dawned, this news had flown all across the cultivation world, as if it had been given wings, faster even than the flames of war had spread at the outset.

Only a day after the end of the siege of the Burial Mounds, news of Wei Wuxian’s demise had already sprouted wings and flown to every corner of the cultivation world, sweeping the land even faster than the flames of war.

The Burial Mounds had just been annihilated. Yet, before the second day, news had already taken flight across the cultivation world, spreading faster than the flames of war.

Not two days after the frightful assault on Shambled-Tombs Mound, the news flew to every corner of the Daoist world as if it had sprouted wings — spreading with more speed than the erstwhile flames of war.

It hadn't been a day since the Siege of the Burial Mound, and the news had already flown across the entire cultivation world as if it had sprouted wings/ The speed was only comparable to how fast the flames of war had spread back then, if not faster.

一时之间,无论是世家名门,还是山野散修,人人都在议论此次由四大玄门世家联率、大小百家参与混战的围剿行动。

All of a sudden, whether it was a famous family, or a mountain repair, everyone was discussing the siege of the melee by the four great Xuanmen family alliances and hundreds of large and small families.

Immediately, whether its is an aristocrat or a recluse monk, everyone is talking about how the four big Xuanmen families had joined hands, how all the small and big families, hundreds of them came together to participate in the hectic siege operation.

For a while, from the most prominent clans to rogue cultivators, everyone is discussing the siege that was lead by the Four Great Clans and followed by hundreds of smaller ones.

For a time, regardless of whether one was a prestigious name from a prominent clan or a wandering cultivator from the open countryside, everyone was discussing how under the leadership of the Four Great Clans, hundreds of sects, great and small, had embroiled themselves in the siege.

For a period afterwards, everyone, from wandering cultivators to those of the mightiest and most prestigious of clans, discussed how the Four Great Houses commanded thousands into the siege.

Suddenly, everyone, be it the aristocratic families or the wandering cultivators, were in unison in discussing the siege operation carried out by the coalition led by the Four Great Clans, with participation from the various smaller clans.

Suddenly, whether famous masters from prestigious schools or wandering practitioners from mountain tops, everyone was discussing the punitive expedition led by the allied Four Great Clans, who had charged into the fray ahead of a hundred smaller sects.

Suddenly everyone, whether they were prominent clans or rogue cultivators, was discussing this operation of vanquishment that had been led by the four great clans and attended by hundreds of sects both big and small

“好好好,果然是大快人心!手刃这夷陵老祖的是哪位名士英豪?”

"Well, it is really popular! Which celebrity is the hero of Yiling's ancestor?"

“Ancestor Yi Ling is dead? Who could kill him!”

“The YiLing Patriarch has died? Who could have killed him?”

“Well, well, well, a time to rejoice indeed! And which worthy hero cut down this Yiling Laozu?”

“Rejoice, rejoice! Say, which hero dealt the finishing blow to the Old Master of Yiling?”

“This is a moment of jubilation! Which worthy hero held the blade that slayed the Yiling Grandmaster?”

“Great, great news! Everybody celebrate indeed! But who could have slain the Grandmaster of Monsters Mountain?”

"Fantastic, fantastic indeed! Who was the hero who killed the Yiling Patriarch?"

“还能是谁。他师弟小江宗主江澄呗,云梦江氏、兰陵金氏、姑苏蓝氏、清河聂氏四大家族打头阵,大义灭亲,把魏无羡那老巢‘乱葬岗’一锅端了。”

"Who can still be. His brother Jiang Chengbai, the master of Xiaojiang, took the lead in the four major families of Yunmengjiang, Lanling Jin, Gusu Lan, and Qinghe Nie. It's a pot."

“Who else could it be. His junior brother Jiang Cheng placed righteousness above his personal relations and brought the Yun Meng Jiang, Lan Ling Jin, Gu Su Lan, and Qing He Nie clans to spearhead the attack. The four families wiped out his lair, the unmarked burial grounds.”

“Who other than his shidi, Jiang Cheng, putting an end to his own relative for the greater good. Jiang Cheng led the Four Clans of YunmengJiang, LanlingJin, GusuLan, and QingheNie to destroy his “den”—LuanZang Hill.”

“Who else could it be? His shidi, the young Jiang sect leader, Jiang Cheng of course! He led the four great clans of Yunmeng Jiang, Lanling Jin, Gusu Lan, and Qinghe Nie, placed righteousness above family, and wiped out Wei Wuxian’s den at the ‘Mass Graves’.”

“Who else could it be? His brother, Chief Jiang Cheng of the Yunmeng Jiang Clan!  He and the houses of the other three Great Clans, the Lanling Jin Clan, the Gusu Lan Clan, and the Qinghe Nie Clan, led the charge. Clan Chief Jiang killed his own brother and destroyed his lair for the good of us all. The Burial Mounds are gone!”

“Who else could it be but his junior, the Young Clan Leader of the Jiang Clan, Jiang Cheng. Led by the four Great Clans – the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng, Jin Clan of Lanling, Lan Clan of Gusu, Nie Clan of Qinghe – Wei Wuxian’s den, the Burial Mounds, was razed to the ground in the name of justice.

“Who else could have done it? His sworn brother, the young chief Jiang Cheng, of course! He led into battle his own clan from Misty River, alongside the Jin Clan from Orchid Hill,  the Lan Clan from the Maiden Forest, and the Nie Clan from Honest Creek3. He upheld justice over family ties by destroying the ‘Shambled-Tombs Mound’ where Wei Wuxian had dug his lair.”

"Who else could it be? Ain't it his shidi, the little sect leader Jiang Cheng? The four major clans fronted the attack: the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng, the Jin Clan of Lanling, the Lan Clan of Gusu, and the Nie Clan of Qinghe. Crushing family for the greater good, they destroyed Wei Wuxian's good ol' lair, the Burial Mound."

“我得说句公道话:杀得好。”

"I have to be fair: kill well."

“I have to say, they killed well.”

“I must say, good riddance!”

“I must say some fair words: good riddance.”

“Good riddance. Wei Wuxian deserved it.”

“This I say, justice has been served.”

“I’ll say a fair word: good riddance!”

"I must say, well done."

Immediately, someone clapped his hands and said, "Yes, kill well! If Yunmeng Jiang adopted him and cultivated him, he would be a traitor in his life in rural life... What else was he talking about? The original Sect Master Jiang raised him as a relative son, he was good, he defected blatantly, and enemies with the Hundred Schools, lost his face in Jiangmeng's Yunmeng, and caused the Jiang's family to die almost completely. What is ungrateful white-eyed wolf? !"

“Good, they killed well! This scourge has finally been plucked, root and all.”

“If not for the Yu Meng Jiang Clan taking him in and training him, Wei Wu Xian would have been a mediocre person who blended into his surroundings. He would never have been able to create the storms he did. Lord Jiang raised him as his own flesh and blood child, yet the kindness was thrown back when he openly defected and made the cultivation world his enemy. Not only disgracing the Jiang family, he also caused the tragic deaths of almost the whole Jiang Clan. A perfect example of a thankless wretch, kicking his benefactor in the teeth!”

“Good riddance indeed! We finally eliminated this scourge.”

“If not for the YunmengJiang clan’s adopting and teaching him, he would have been a hobo living on the streets, let alone causing mayhem as bold as the ones these days. The head of the Jiang clan raised him as her own child, yet he defected them and became the enemy of the cultivation world, bringing shame upon the the Jiang clan, even leading to its near-extermination. He is the prime example of biting the hand that feeds him!”

Immediately, someone clapped and echoed clearly: “That’s right, good riddance! If the Yunmeng Jiang sect had not adopted him, educated him—this Wei Ying would have been a mediocre scoundrel all his life, nothing but riffraff…… what else could he be! The former head of the Jiang clan treated him as his own son, but what a son! Brazenly defecting, making enemies of all the sects, completely losing the Yunmeng Jiang sect’s face—and he nearly got the entire Jiang family massacred. What do you call this? Just a white-eyed wolf that bites the hand that feeds!”

Immediately, someone applauded and shouted, “Exactly! He thoroughly deserved it! If the Jiang Clan hadn’t taken him in and raised him, this Wei Ying would have spent his whole life as a worthless vagrant. What else is there to say? The old Chief Jiang raised him like his own son, yet he betrayed them and made an enemy of everyone. Not only did he humiliate the Jiang Clan, he killed nearly all of his clanmates! He’s the definition of an ungrateful, treacherous bastard!”

Immediately, another chimed in. “Yes! He deserved it! If it weren’t for the Yunmeng Jiang Clan who adopted and raised him, Wei Ying would have been an average vagabond. Clan Leader Jiang had raised him like his own son but not only did he defect and rebel against the cultivation world, he brought dishonour upon Jiang Clan, and caused them to be nearly eradicated. He bit the hand that fed him!”

Someone immediately cheered on loudly, “You're right, good riddance! If the Jiang Clan hadn’t picked him up off the streets and raised him, that rascal Wei Wuxian would have remained a common vermin from the slums all his life... let alone become anything else! The former Jiang patriarch raised him as his own son, but him? He openly rebelled and made enemies out of all the other sects. Not only bringing dishonour to the Jiang Clan, but also causing them to be nearly wiped out. That’s the definition of being an ungrateful cur; he bit the hand that fed him!”

Someone immediately clapped and exclaimed in agreement, "That's right, well done! If it wasn't for the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng, who took him in and raised him, then Wei Wuxian would've been a no-name street rat in the countryside -- never mind becoming anything else! The former Jian sect leader raised him like his own son, eh? But look at him: publicly defecting from the clan, making himself an enemy of the world. He's embarrassed the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng utterly and almost doomed them to the same fate of extermination. What do you call a traitor? Him!"

“江澄居然就让这厮嚣张了这么久,换了是我,当初魏某人叛逃时就不是只捅他一刀,而是直接清理门户,否则他也没机会做出后来那些丧心病狂之事。对这种人,还讲什么同门同修青梅竹马的情面。”

"Jiang Cheng actually let this guy arrogant for so long, instead of me, when Wei someone defected, he didn't just stab him, but cleaned the portal directly, otherwise he wouldn't have the opportunity to do the things that were heartbroken. To this kind of person, what is the affection of the same class of fellow practitioners."

“It’s impressive that Jiang Chen let this guy act arrogantly for so long, if it were me, when that fellow Wei defected I would not have stabbed him, instead I would have immediately cleaned out the whole sect, or I would have definitely stopped him from pulling all those insane stunts later. It’s not even worth to bring up all that same sector fellow initiate childhood friends sentiments.”

“Jiang Cheng allowed this fellow to live for too long. If I were him, at the time of the defection, I wouldn’t have just stabbed him. In fact, I would have thoroughly examined the disciples of the clan again, so that he doesn’t do those crazy things he did later on. Who cares about the so called ‘considerations’ that he gave to his childhood friend.”

“I can’t believe Jiang Cheng really let this arrogant manservant live for so long. If it were me, when this Wei first defected, I wouldn’t have just stabbed him; I’d have cleaned house straight away. Then he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to commit all those deranged acts later. When it comes to these sorts of people, how can you even take sentiments like ‘same clan’, ‘same sect’, or ‘childhood loyalty’ into consideration?”

“Not only that, Jiang Cheng tolerated that arrogant, up-jumped servant for ages. If it were me, I wouldn’t have just stabbed him when he defected. I would have obliterated him and anyone who followed him on the spot! Or else how would he have had the opportunity to do all those insane, vile things? Even if you grew up with him and loved him like a brother, you can’t show people like him any mercy.

“It’s unbelievable that Jiang Cheng could tolerate this servant’s brazen actions for so long. If I were him, when Wei Wuxian first defected, not only would I have stabbed him, I would have killed him. How else would Wei Wuxian have had the opportunity to commit such monstrosities? When dealing with such people, one doesn’t have to consider their past relationships as childhood friends and fellow disciples!”

“I can’t believe Jiang Cheng tolerated that punk’s arrogance for so long. Were it me, back when he rebelled, I wouldn't have let him off the hook with only a stab wound. I’d have purged his whole sect straight away, and he wouldn’t have committed all those atrocities afterwards. With scum like that, there is no ‘consideration for a childhood friend’ and ‘regard for a co-disciple’ to be had.”

"I can't believe Jiang Cheng allowed that guy to run amok for so long. If it were me, I wouldn't have just stabbed him when he first defected, I would've cleaned house! He wouldn't even have gotten the chance to do all those crazy things. What does a childhood friendship matter when facing people like him?"

“可我听到的不是这样的啊?魏婴不是因为自己修炼邪术遭受反噬、受手下鬼将撕咬蚕食而死的吗?听说活活被咬碎成了齑粉呢。”

"But what I heard is not like this? Wasn't Wei Ying dying because of his practice of evil art, and the ghosts of his men would bite and nibble? I heard that it was bitten into a powder."

“Where did you guys come by this gossip? Wei Wu Xian wasn’t killed by Jiang Cheng, Jiang Cheng only dealt a blow to the main force. It’s the sorcery that Wei Wu Xian was practising himself that backfired on him, he ended up suffering from the eroding bites of his own ghosts and was chewed alive into a fine dust.”

“That’s merely hearsay. Although Jiang Cheng was one of the main forces, he did not give Wei WuXian the final blow. Because he cultivates the Demon Path, Wei WuXian’s powers had backfired and he was ripped to pieces.”

“Oh, but I heard that that wasn’t how it happened? Wasn’t it because Wei Ying was cultivating crooked arts and suffered a backlash? Didn’t he die when his ghost soldiers finally tore him to pieces? I heard he was ground to dust between their teeth.”

“But that’s not what I heard. I thought one of his evil tricks backfired and he was shredded to pieces by those ghosts of his. Some say that they bit and tore at him so viciously that by the end of it, his body was no more than a slurry of flesh and bone dust.”

“That’s not what I heard though? Wasn’t Wei Ying’s death caused by the backlash of his demonic cultivation, causing him to be torn apart by the very demons he summoned?  Rumour has it that he was shredded till there was nothing left.”

“But that’s not what I heard, is it? Hasn’t Wei Ying gotten his comeuppance from his devious sorcery backfiring on him? Wasn’t he torn apart and gnawed to pieces by the demonic generals under his command? I heard he’s been mawed alive and turned into fine bone powder.”

"That's not what I heard, though? Didn't Wei Ying demonic cultivation backfire, causing him to be ripped apart and devoured by the ghosts under his command? I heard he was chewed to pieces while still alive."

“哈哈哈哈……这就叫现世报。我早就想说了,他养的那批鬼将就像一群没拴好的疯狗到处咬人,最后咬死自己,活该!”

"Ha ha ha ha... this is called the Shisei Bao. I have long wanted to say that the group of ghosts he raises will be like a bunch of mad dogs that are not tied to bite people everywhere, and finally bite themselves and deserve it!"

“Hahahaha… It’s retribution, the ghosts he raised were like a group of badly leashed mad dogs, biting people all over the place. It ended up biting himself to death, serves him right!”

“Hahahaha… That’s karma! The ghost soldiers that he created are like unleashed dogs, biting everyone that they come across. It serves him right to be chewed to death!”

“Hahahaha! Now that’s called karma. I’ve long since wanted to say, that group of ghosts he raised was just like a badly-leashed pack of mad dogs, running around and biting everyone until they finally bit themselves to death. Serves him right!”

A man howled with laugher. “That’s karma! I’ve always said that his little horde of ghosts was like a pack of rabid dogs, gnawing and tearing at anyone in sight. In the end, they tore apart their master. Serves him right!”

“HAHA … this is retribution. I knew it, the ghost soldiers that he raised were like a pack of unleashed rabid mongrels. He truly deserved his end.”

“Hahaha… That’s karmic retribution for you. I wanted to say it all along, those demonic servants he kept? They were just like badly-leashed, rabid dogs, waiting to bite. That they ate him in the end only serves him right!”

"Ha ha ha ha! That's what you call karma. I've wanted to say this for a long time now, but those ghost generals he raised were like a pack of unleashed mad dogs, biting people everywhere. And in the end, he got bit to death himself. Well deserved!"

“话虽如此,可此次围剿乱葬岗,若不是小江宗主依夷陵老祖的弱点拟定计划,成功与否还难说呢。你们可别忘了魏无羡手上有什么东西,当初一晚上三千多个成名修士是怎么全军覆没的。”

"That being said, it is difficult to say whether the siege of the burial of the siege was not the success of Xiaojiang's ancestor Yi Yiling's ancestors. Don't forget what Wei Wuxian had in his hand. How did more than three thousand famous monks get wiped out at night."

“However the suppression this time, if not for Jiang Cheng basing the plan around Wei Wu Xian’s weakness, its success or failure would have been hard to say ne. You all better not forget, Wei Wu Xuan still has an ace up his sleeve, that one night he managed to annihilate more than three thousand famous cultivators.”

“But, if not for Jiang Cheng making a plan that aimed at Wei WuXian’s weaknesses, the siege might not have succeeded. Should I remind you folks of the item that Wei WuXian possesses? Did you forget about the day that three thousand skilled cultivators were completely annihilated?”

“Be that as it may, if the young Jiang sect leader hadn’t used the Yiling Laozu’s weaknesses against him at the siege at the Mass Graves, it’s difficult to say whether they would have succeeded. Don’t forget what Wei Wuxian had on his person! How those three thousand prominent cultivators were all annihilated that first night!”

“To be honest though, if it weren’t for young Chief Jiang’s knowledge of the Old Yiling Master’s weaknesses, the siege of the Burial Mounds might not have succeeded. Don’t forget what kinds of things Wei Wuxian has at his disposal. Don’t you remember when he annihilated more than 3,000 highly trained cultivators?”

“In all honesty, the siege of the Burial Mounds might not have been a success if it wasn’t for Young Master Jiang’s plan that targeted the Yiling Grandmaster’s weakness.  Don’t forget that Wei Wuxian possessed the items that allowed him to to obliterate three thousand cultivators in a single night.”

“Be it as it may, if Jiang Cheng hadn’t carefully planned the assault around the Grandmaster of Monsters Mountain’s weaknesses, the expedition may not have succeeded at all. Don’t forget about the artefact Wei Wuxian possessed, and the time he decimated an entire army of three thousand skilled practitioners in a single night.”

Be that as it may, if the little Jiang sect leader hadn't been the one to plan this siege based on the Yiling Patriarch's weaknesses, then success would've been difficult to guarantee. Don't forget what Wei Wuxian had in his clutches, or how over three thousand renowned cultivators were all completely annihilated that night."

“不是五千吗?”

"Isn't it five thousand?"

“Wasn’t it five thousand?”

“Wasn’t it 5,000?”

“Wasn’t it five thousand?”

“Wasn’t it five thousand?”

"Wasn't it five thousand"

“三千五千都差不多。我觉得五千更有可能。”

"Three thousand and five thousand are almost the same. I think five thousand is more likely."

“I heard it was more than three thousand, five thousand ba.”

“I heard that it was more than three thousand, possibly five thousand.”

“Three thousand, five thousand, it amounts to the same thing. Five thousand is more believable.”

“3,000 or 5,000, one or the other. I think 5,000’s more likely.”

“Three or five thousand, what’s the difference? Though I feel it’s more likely five thousand.”

“Three thousand or five thousand, it's all the same. Though, I bet it was five thousand.”

"Three thousand, five thousand, they're all the same. Five thousand is more believable."

“果真丧心病狂……”

"Sure enough..."

“Really ludicrous…”

“He’s most certainly out of his mind.”

“He really was deranged……”

“It really was a murderous frenzy…”

“Such depravity…..”

“...The rampage of a heartless, demented maniac!”

"He really is completely mad…"

“他死之前毁掉了阴虎符,倒也算积了点阴德,否则留下那鬼东西继续贻害人间,更加罪孽深重喽。”

"He destroyed the Yin Tiger Talisman before he died, but he has accumulated a bit of Yin Virtue, otherwise he will leave the ghost and continue to harm the world, and the sin will be more serious."

“Fortunately before his death he destroyed that monstrous device, if he had left left that thing harming the world, it would have been an even greater sin.”

“It’s a good thing that he destroyed that evil weapon before he died. Otherwise, if it was left in this world to harm humankind, his sins would have been worse.”

“Before he died, at least he did some good, destroying the Yin Tiger Seal. Otherwise, if he’d left that cursed thing to continue wreaking havoc on earth, he would have been even more damned.”

“Before he died, he destroyed the Yin Tiger Tally, so I suppose he did redeem himself a little bit. Otherwise, with that evil thing lurking around, his legacy would be even more despicable.”

“He destroyed the Yinhu Fu before he died, that was his only redemption. Otherwise, if that cursed item was left behind, chaos might have ensued.”

“At least he destroyed the Yin Tiger-Tally5 before his death. That’d count as paying some amends. If he’d left the cursed object in this world to inflict further suffering on humankind, his sins would have been even greater.”

"He destroyed the Yin Tiger Tally before he died, so he gets at least some credit for that. If that evil thing was left to cause harm in the world, his sins would only deepen."

“阴虎符”三字一出,忽然一阵静默,似乎都在顾忌着什么。

As soon as the three characters "Yin Tiger Symbol" came out, there was a sudden silence, seeming to be worried about something.

“Yin Tiger Seal”. As soon as these three words were said, silence fell, as if all were overtaken with some doubt.

As the words “Yin Tiger Tally” were spoken, silence abruptly fell, as though everyone had become suddenly preoccupied.

A hush fell over the crowd when the three words “Yinhu Fu” [1] were uttered.

The crowd fell silent when the three words “Yin Tiger-Tally”  were pronounced, as if everybody had turned to contemplation.

The moment the Yin Tiger Tally was mentioned, there was suddenly silence, as if everyone was wary of something. A moment later, someone sighed.

片刻之后,一人慨叹道:

After a while, one person sighed:

After a moment, someone lamented with a sigh:

A few moments later, someone sighed regretfully and said, “Aye, this Wei Wuxian….back in the day he was a promising cultivator from a good background, and not without high merits. When he was young, what a glorious, free spirit! How exactly he wound up on this road…”

Eventually, someone lamented: “Speaking of Wei Wuxian, he had been a stellar cultivator, well-known among the illustrious clans during his prime years. He made a name for himself at a young age, and led an illustrious and unbridled life. It’s a wonder how he ended up walking down this path….”

Eventually, someone sighed.

“哎……要说这魏无羡,当年也是仙门之中极富盛名的世家公子,并非不曾有过佳迹。年少成名,何等风光恣意……究竟他是怎么走到这一步的……”

"Hey...We want to say that Wei Wuxian was also a very well-known aristocratic son in the fairy gate, and he has not never had a good deed. He became famous when he was young, what a beautiful scenery...How did he get to this point... "

“Ai… Speaking of this Wei Wu Xian, in those years he was the prestigious son of that respected family, with a good track record. Young, famous, and wild… How exactly did he reach this point…”

“Oh well… You know, back then, Wei WuXian was one of the most promising cultivators, coming from a highly distinguished clan and finding success at a young age. How on Earth did he end up where he is now?”

“You know this Wei Wuxian—back then, he was also the son of a prestigious cultivation clan. It’s not like he never had any good points. Such a promising youth, so outstanding and bold…… How in the world did he come to this……”

“Alas... To think that, back in the days, Wei Wuxian was an exalted practitioner: the illustrious scion of an influential clan. He wasn’t without merits either. He made a name for himself at a young age, and lived in boundless fame… How he ended up where he has, I wonder…”

"Man…speaking of that Wei Wuxian. He used to be a young master in an extremely affluent and distinguished cultivation sect back then. It wasn't like he had no accomplishments. He gained great success in his youth. How glorious and unbridled he was…How did he end up on this path…?"

话题转移,议论声又纷纷然起来。

The topic shifted, and the discussion rose again.

The conversation shifted, comments tumbling one after another.

With this change of topic, the discussion became loud and boisterous once again.

With a change of topic came another flurry of discussions.

At the changed topic, the chitter-chatter of commentaries ignited anew.

The subject changed, and voices were raised again in heated discussion.

“由此可见,修炼终归是非走正统路子不可。邪魔歪道,一时风光无限,好像很嚣张很了不起?嘿,最后是什么下场?”

"It can be seen that after all, cultivation has to take the orthodox path. The evil devil has a crooked way, and the scenery is boundless for a while, it seems to be very arrogant and great? Hey, what is the end of it?"

“This shows that in the path of cultivation one must stay to the right path. Straying onto the crooked evil path only provides momentary fame, and appears to be really impressive. Hei, in the end what became of him? Dead without even a corpse left.”

“This proves that one can only cultivate by following the right path. Using these dishonest practices would only seem beneficial at first glance. Look, what happened in the end? Not even a whole corpse was left of him.”

“This just goes to show, one must always cultivate on a righteous course. So the wicked path looks infinitely impressive for a time, so wild and incredible! But what kind of sorry end did he meet, eh?”

“It just goes to show that cultivators have to stay on the proper path. Taking up demonic cultivation, “free spirit,” pah! Sounds to me like he was arrogant and egomaniacal. Heh, and what was the result?”

“As you can see, the traditional cultivation path is the only way to go. Demonic cultivation might seem enticing and formidable, but what are the consequences?”

“It goes on to prove that orthodoxy is the only way to practice the Discipline. Deviance and heresy may yield flitting glory to gloat about at first, but look at what happened to him in the end.”

"It's obvious from this case that the path of cultivation must always follow the righteous way. The demonic path is only glorious for the moment. You think it looks so glamorous? Heh, look where that got him."

掷地有声:“死无全尸!”

There was a sound: "There is no dead body!"

Words rang out: “Not even a whole corpse left!”

The speaker’s voice grew sonorous and forceful. “A bloody death and a defiled corpse!”

Voices cried out in unison: “Perishment!”

The crowd cried out at once, “Death with no whole corpse left behind5!”

"Death without a corpse!" a voice replied forcefully.

“也不全是修炼之道害的,归根结底还是魏无羡此人人品太差,天怒人怨啊。所谓善恶终有报,天道好轮回……”

"It's not all because of the way of cultivation. In the final analysis, Wei Wuxian's character is too bad. The sky is angry and people complain. The so-called good and evil will eventually be rewarded, and the way of heaven is reincarnation..."

“His cultivation practises weren’t the only cause, Wei Wu Xian’s character is truly too bad, angering the gods and causing resentment in the people ah. In the cycle of reincarnation, good and evil will be repaid.”

“Not everything was because of his cultivation path. Wei WuXian’s personality is quite immoral. One’s deeds will be paid, one way or another; what goes around always comes around.”

“But it can’t all be blamed on the path he cultivated. Ultimately, it was still because this Wei Wuxian’s moral character was too flawed, angering the heavens and man alike! By the heavenly law, everyone answers for their deeds in the end, good and evil……”

“But it wasn’t only demonic cultivation that killed him. At the end of the day, it was also his horrible personality and rotten character. Everywhere he went, people despised him. Whether they were good or bad people themselves, everyone bore a grudge against him. It was bound to come back and bite him in the ass sooner or later.”

“Well, it’s not to say that Wei Wuxian’s downfall was entirely due to his cultivation methods.  Ultimately, he was a man of poor character who incurred the wrath of both man and the heavens. As the saying goes, good will always prevail, and the heavens is just.”

“The path he chose in his practice wasn’t the only cause of his downfall, though. Ultimately, it was Wei Wuxian’s despicable character that did him in — angering the heavens and vexing men. As the saying goes, good and evil each reaps their rewards, and the heavens see to it that what goes around always comes around...”

"It's not all because of the cultivation path. At the end of the day, it's still because Wei Wuxian was someone of bad character. He roused the wrath of the heavens and the grudges of men. You know what they say: What goes around comes around; the heavens are watching…"

身死之后,盖棺定论。所论内容大同小异,偶有微弱的异声,也会立刻被压了下去。

After his death, the coffin was concluded. The content of the discussion is similar, and there are occasional faint strange sounds, which will be immediately suppressed.

After his death, the coffin is closed and a conclusion drawn. There is a general consensus, and whenever there is a tiny squeak of dissent, it is immediately suppressed.

After Wei WuXian’s death, the period is drawn on the topic. The discussions of the people are mostly the same, with a few unconventional opinions being brought down immediately.

His death was the final nail in the coffin on the subject. Conversations varied only slightly, and if occasionally a dissenting opinion were weakly voiced, it was immediately quashed.

Once dead and buried, Wei Wuxian’s reputation was set. Everyone’s opinions were much the same, whatever the differences in the details. If someone had the temerity to voice an alternative view, they were immediately met with such fierce opposition that it was rapidly extinguished.

It is said that death has had its final say.  There was a general consensus among all, and all dissenting opinions were swiftly suppressed.

Thus, judgment was passed upon Wei Wuxian’s cold remains. The content of the debate never varied much, and a consensus was soon reached. The few, faint dissenting voices that rose on occasions were swiftly quelled.

"After Wei Wuxian's death, judgment of his character was no longer refutable. The discussions were mostly the same, and any small voice of dissent was immediately quashed.

只是每个人的心头都还有一缕阴霾挥之不去。

It's just that everyone's heart still has a haze lingering.

It is only that pressing on everyone’s minds is one thought they dare not voice.

However, the elephant in the room stayed in the back of everyone’s mind.

Only, there was still a persistent haze clouding everyone’s heart.

But within everyone’s hearts, there was one niggling worry they couldn’t quite put to bed.

However, a worrisome thought still lingered at the back of everyone’s mind.

However, the shadow of a worry still lingered in people’s hearts.

However, gloom still firmly enveloped everyone's minds.

虽说夷陵老祖魏无羡已身死乱葬岗,但事成之后,却无法召唤他的残魂。

Although Wei Wuxian, the ancestor of Yiling, died in a mass grave, after the incident, he could not summon his remnant soul.

Wei Wu Xian’s remnant spirit cannot be called. In other words, his soul cannot be found.

Nobody could summon Wei WuXian’s soul, which meant that his soul had disappeared.

Although the Yiling Laozu had died at the Mass Graves, afterwards, no one could summon the fragments of his soul.

Wei Wuxian was supposed to have died at the Burial Mounds, but since then, not a single person had been able to summon him. His soul had, in a word, vanished.

Although it was said that the Yiling Grandmaster, Wei Wuxian met with his demise at the Burial Mounds, however, no one had been able to summon his soul.

Although the Grandmaster of Monsters Mountain’s carnal envelope was said to have perished at Shambled-Tombs Mound, no one was able to summon his maimed soul to dispose of it.

Although the Yiling Patriarch, Wei Wuxian, had died at Burial Mound, the remnants of his soul couldn't be summoned.

他的魂魄,也许是在被万鬼吞噬之时一同被分食了,又也许是逃逸了。

His soul may have been eaten together when it was swallowed by the ghosts, or it may have escaped.

Perhaps it became part of the food during the million ghost’s devouring.

Perhaps it escaped.

It might have been torn apart by the millions of ghosts that devoured him.

Or, it might have escaped.

Perhaps his soul had been swallowed by the ten thousand ghosts that devoured him, or perhaps it had escaped.

Perhaps it had been shredded and devoured with his body. Or perhaps, it had escaped.

Perhaps his soul might have dissipated when he died, or he might have simply escaped.

Perhaps the demons had devoured it at the same time they did his body... or perhaps had it escaped.

Perhaps his soul had also been ripped apart and devoured by the millions of ghosts. Or perhaps it had escaped.

If it is the former, naturally everyone will be happy to celebrate. However, the ancestor of Yiling has the ability to shake the world and move mountains and seas-at least as the rumors are, it is not difficult for him to resist calling the soul. Once he comes to the Yen God to reset and rebirth from the house, by then, the Xuanmen Baijia and even the whole world will usher in even more frenzied revenge and curse, sinking into darkness and blood.

If the former occurred, it would naturally be to everyone’s delight and satisfaction. Nevertheless, Ancestor Yi Ling has the ability to upheave the heavens, to move mountains and drain the seas, this no one doubts. If the latter occurred, the moment his spirit is restored, and rebirth is seized, then, the cultivation world, even the whole mortal realm, will welcome an even more frenzied revenge and curse, and sink into a world without justice, under a reign of terror.

If was the first, then all is well. Then again, nobody doubts the fact that the YiLing Patriarch has the power to move mountains and empty seas. If was the last, his soul would eventually return to revive in his body. When the day comes, the cultivation world, or even all of mortal land, would be faced with the most insane damnation and revenge, sinking into nothing but chaos and despair.

If it were the former, naturally it would be celebrated across the land to the satisfaction of all. But the Yiling Laozu had power enough to overturn the heavens and smother the earth, move mountains and drain seas—at least, that was how the rumors went. If he wanted to resist the summoning of his soul, it wouldn’t exactly be difficult. If in coming days his spirit were restored, if he forcibly possessed a body and were reborn, then not only the cultivation world, but all of humanity would inevitably meet with an even greater frenzy of vengeances and curses, sinking into a chaotic age of foul winds and bloody rains.

If the first was true, everyone would, of course, be happy and gratified. Yet the Old Master of Yiling could drown the earth and overturn the heavens, move mountains and drain seas—or at least, so the stories said. It would have been nothing to a man like him to resist a mere summons. If, in the future, he wanted to reclaim his place, if he snatched a new body and was reborn, all the hundred clans, perhaps the whole race of man, would inevitably be met with a more rabid and hateful vengeance than mortals had yet witnessed. The world would sink into black, bloody terror, annihilating all virtue, righteousness, and justice.

Naturally if it were the former, it would have been a great cause for celebration.  However, the Yiling Grandmaster was said to be so powerful that he could turn the world upside down if he wished. As such, he would be capable of resisting the summonings. But should the day come that his soul is pieced together again, and he manages to revive himself, all of the cultivation world, or even all of humanity, would have to face his wrath, driving the world into utmost despair and bloodshed.

If it was the first, then all was well. But the latter was also far from impossible: the Grandmaster of Monsters Mountains had been so powerful, he could upturn the skies and trample the earth, move mountains and change sea’s tides — or so it was told — and resisting the summon would be for him no feat at all.

Hence, should the day come that Wei Wuxian managed to restore his soul and snatch a body to reincarnate into with his powers still intact, all of the Daoist realm, or even all of humanity, would inevitably face his dreadful retaliation. His wrath would then only be augmented many times over, bringing about the reign of darkness without the bright of dawn, gales of pestilence and tempests of blood.

The former would naturally be a joyous occasion for the entire world. However, the Yiling Patriarch had the ability to topple the earth and move mountains and seas -- at least, that was what the legends said. It would be no great task for him to resist soul-summoning if he desired it. If his spirit returned in the future…if he took over a body and was reincarnated, then the cultivation world -- the entire mortal world, in fact - would be cursed to face even greater vengeance, sinking into an endless storm of darkness and blood.

因此,将一百二十座镇山石兽压在乱葬岗顶后,各大家族开始进行频繁的召魂仪式,同时严查夺舍,搜集各地异象,全力警戒。

Therefore, after the one hundred and twenty Zhenshan stone beasts were placed on the top of the mass graves, the major families began to conduct frequent soul-calling rituals, and at the same time, they strictly checked and seized houses, collected anomalies from various places, and fully guarded them.

A hundred and twenty stone beasts from Zhen mountain cover and push down the top of the burial grounds. Each major family starts to hold frequent evocation rituals and thoroughly investigate the surroundings, they gather anomalies from all over the world and stay on high alert.

The various clans set one hundred and twenty stone beasts on top of LuanZang Hill and initiated frequent soul-summoning rituals, followed by heightened vigilance and searches for strange occurrences from all over the world.

Thus, after setting a hundred and twenty stone beasts atop the Mass Graves as guards, each of the great clans began performing frequent soul-summoning rites, all while investigating every report of spirit possession and hunting down strange omens across the land. No effort was spared in their vigilance.

Consequently, the big clans set a hundred and twenty stone beasts atop the Burial Mounds to guard against Wei Wuxian’s possible return. They performed soul summoning rituals at a nervous regularity, investigated any and all reports of stolen bodies, and searched all the lands and seas for anything strange that might herald the coming nightmare.

Hence, a hundred and twenty stone guardians were erected at the peak of the Burial Mounds for protection, as the various clans started carrying out frequent summonings. There was increased vigilance towards acts of demonic possession, or any abnormal occurrences. The cultivation world was at a heightened security state of alert.

Consequently, one hundred and twenty beastly-stone guardians were erected on the peak of Shambled-Tombs Mound whilst the largest clans carried frequent soul-summoning ceremonies. Incidences of demonic possession were strictly investigated, information about abnormal occurrences was carefully collected; all practitioners remained in a state of highest alert.

And so when the hundred and twenty stone beasts required to seal a mountain were set down at the peak of the Burial Mound, every major clan began conducting frequent soul-summoning rituals. They also strictly monitored for cases of possession, south far and wide for abnormal occurrences, and heightened their security to the max.

至此,终于越来越多的人相信,也许魏无羡也没那么了不起,也许他真的神魂俱灭了。

At this point, finally more and more people believed that maybe Wei Wuxian was not that great, maybe he was really gone.

More and more people believed, that maybe, the spirit of Ancestor Yi Ling truly perished.

More and more people were starting to believe that, maybe, the YiLing Patriarch actually perished.

By this point, more and more people finally believed: perhaps Wei Wuxian had never been so extraordinary. Perhaps his soul really had perished for good.

Gradually, people began to think that perhaps Wei Wuxian wasn’t quite as great or as powerful as the legends said. Perhaps his soul had been annihilated.

Eventually, many came to believe that Wei Wuxian was not as great as he was made out to be. Perhaps his soul might have really been destroyed.

Maybe Wei Wuxian hadn’t been so powerful after all. Maybe his soul had perished as well.

Thus, more and more people finally came to believe that perhaps Wei Wuxian had not been that amazing after all. Maybe he really had perished.

纵使曾经翻手为云覆手雨,也终归有一日成为被翻覆的那一个。

Even if the hand was turned over by the clouds and rain, it will eventually become the one that was overturned.

Even though he once turned his palm up and gathered clouds to turn it down and create rain, after all, there comes a day where he is the one that is overturned.

Even if he was capable of turning the world upside down, it was finally his turn to be toppled over.

Even if he could have once toppled the clouds, in the end, there was always going to come a day when he would be the one toppled.

Even if he had once been able to topple the clouds and call the rain, there had to come a day when he was the one being toppled.

The man who previously had been able to overturn the heavens had finally been overrun.

And even if he once could, with a wave of his hand, overturn the skies and command the fall of rain, he had been the one to be toppled over in the end.

Even though he had once turned the world upside down, there had at last come a day when he was the one overturned.

没有人会被永远奉在神坛之上,传说也仅仅只是传说而已。

No one will be enshrined in the altar forever, and legends are just legends.

No one will forever be raised to an altar, and in the end, a legend is just a legend.

Nobody would remain at the top for all of eternity—legends are only legends.

No one is worshiped on an altar forever. Legends are only legends, nothing more.

No one could be revered and hated like some dark god for all eternity. Stories were just stories, after all.

No one would be revered like a god forever; legends were, after all, just legends.

Besides, nobody could be dreaded above the gods forever. Legends, after all, were only legends.

No one could be worshiped on the divine altar forever. Legends were merely legends.
