Friday 15 April 2016 – Term 1 - Week 11
From The Principal
Welcome to our last newsletter for Term 1 2016. It has been a busy one and all classes have achieved lots of learning in most areas of the curriculum. A big thank you to all the staff and children for their hard work. This school is humming along.
On Tuesday we welcomed some lovely students and staff from Clendon Park School for a cultural exchange between our Te Reo Maori group and their children. It was a very moving experience and we are very proud of our students for their confidence in speaking and singing in other languages. Thank you to Matua Faenza and his team for their great work. A very successful day.
Thanks to the PTA for organising the Discos last Friday night. The children love them.
The Walking School Bus folk farewelled Katrina Elder on Tuesday as the family are relocating South. Katrina was instrumental in getting our walking school buses up and running for Elm Park School approximately 5 years ago. We wish you and your family all the very best.
We are still experiencing huge issues with people not respecting our road rules and they are endangering children every day with their lack of care on the road. Please ! Please respect the teachers and parents who are helping to keep your children safe when crossing the road. Please use the pedestrian crossing and wait for the teachers to say it is ok to cross. Names and numbers are recorded and sent to the police if infringements occur. Fines will be issued. Last week we had a driver go through the crossing and park on the wrong side of the road facing the oncoming traffic, Hardly safe driving is it?
A police constable was called and a fine was issued to this person.
We also had a talk for the Years 5 and 6 students about online safety from Constable Merv Hotter, as there have been a number of incidents of children visiting inappropriate sites at home without their parents knowledge. Please monitor your children's use of digital devices as we want everyone to be safe from predators.
Please note we still have headphones available for purchase from the school office for $20.00.
On that happy note please have a happy and safe holiday. School begins again on Monday 2 May at 8.50 am.

Focus on Children
Here are some self portrait photos that the students have recently done with a speech bubble that shows why they think they are a learner.
We have been looking at what learning sounds like, feels like and looks like. These were the students stories about what they thought they did that showed that they were a learner.
