How to Access and Configure NMH Google Apps Using Okta Single Sign On

Okta is a Single Sign On tool which means that you will only need 1 password to access many NMH technology services, including your NMH Google Apps, Canvas, DormNet (for Dorm Heads) and the Blue Travel Form (for Students).  More products will be added to Okta in the coming months.

The eventual goal of NMH’s use of Okta is to allow NMH users access to all NMH technology services using only 1 password.

The very first time you access Okta, there are some initial configuration steps.  These steps are outlined in this document.

You can access NMH Google Apps via Okta from any web-connected computer in the world by browsing to:

https://nmhschool.okta.com

Okta Initial Configuration Steps

Just the Steps (Detailed instructions with images can be found below)

  1. If you are a current NMH Student or Employee, please use the Google Chrome web browser, and be sure to sign into Google Chrome.
  1. If you are an NMH Community member (retiree or spouse of a current employee) you may use any web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome)
  1. Browse to nmhschool.okta.com
  2. Enter your username or email address, and your password, then click Sign In
  3. Upon your initial sign in, there are four setup steps.  The first three steps will be used to help you reset your password if you forget it.  The last step is a security step.
  1. Enter a non-NMH email address.  At your request, Okta will send a message to this address if you forget your password.
  1. Okta will send you an email to this address which includes a link that you must click to complete the process.
  1. Next, choose a forgot-password question and enter a response that you will remember. At your request, Okta will ask you this question if you forget your password.
  2. Next, you will add a mobile phone number for resetting your your password.  At your request, Okta will send you a text message with a password reset code, if you forget your password.  You should have this mobile phone with you when you complete these steps.
  1. Note: this step is optional but highly recommended. No one at NMH will have access to this phone number.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process of adding a mobile phone
  1. The final configuration step requires you to Click a picture to choose a security image.  You will see this image each time you sign in using Okta, (if you do not see this image, you may be at a fraudulent site and you should not sign in.  Please report the issue to the Help Desk immediately).
  1. When you click on a picture, a check mark will appear on the picture, confirming your selection.
  1. Click on the Create my Account button to complete the Okta initial configuration steps.
  2. After completing the configuration process, you will be greeted by a welcome message from Okta.  Click the Got It!  button.
  3. The screen that appears is the standard Okta screen.  From this page you can launch any of the listed NMH Google Apps as well as other technology resources that may appear.
  1. This screen will appear each time you successfully sign in to Okta at nmhschool.okta.com
  2. Note: Access to some of the listed resources may not be available to Community members or Students.

  3. In the window that appears, enter your mobile phone number, then click on Send Code

  1. Check your mobile phone, a verification code should arrive shortly via text message.  Enter the verification code in the window that appears on your computer, and then click Verify Code.

  1. When the code is accepted, you will be notified with a green confirmation.  Click Done.

  1. You will be returned to the main Okta configuration window.  A message will indicate that your mobile number has been successfully added and verified.


  1. The final configuration step requires you to Click a picture to choose a security image.  You will see this image each time you sign in using Okta, (if you do not see this image, you may be at a fraudulent site and you should not sign in.  Please report the issue to the Help Desk immediately).
