1. Welcome New Swimmers and Families!:
After last week’s successful tryouts, returning families will see new faces in the stands and pools. Please introduce yourself and say hello. There’s always many questions, so veteran parents please feel free to offer your answers and experience when you’re sitting in the stands. In the 8 & Under age group alone, we now have over 25 swimmers; we’re excited to have all our new swimmers on the team, and we look forward to getting to know you and your child at practice and meets.
2. CONGRATULATIONS TO ASHLYN SCHOOF - SCHROEDER
SOUTH’S FIRST 2016 OLYMPIC TRIAL QUALIFIER!!

Standards and Schroeder’s Ashlyn Schoof became the first swimmer

backstroke events. Way to go Ashlyn, we are all very proud of you!!

5. Introducing Coaches Riley Upton and Becky Young:
Coach Becky Young brings experience and enthusiasm to our coaching staff as the Schroeder South Head Developmental Coach. She is the lead coach for Age Group 3, Super 8’s, Schroeder Stars, SuperStars, and she’ll help out with older swimmers occasionally as well. When you read about her professional experience, and meet her, you’ll be as excited as we are to have her with us.
Becky grew up in Wheaton, IL., swimming for the BR Ryall YMCA. She previously coached two high school programs and produced numerous state qualifiers. Last season, she coached the Buehler YMCA Team in Palatine, IL., and worked with swimmers of all ages and abilities, including several Illinois YMCA State Champions, Illinois Age Group State Qualifiers, and YMCA National Team Members.
Becky has her undergraduate degree in Special Education from Indiana University. She is currently attending Cardinal Stritch University and working on her Masters Degree in Sports Management. Welcome, Becky!
Riley Upton is a senior at Thomas More HS where he has been a varsity swimmer for three years. He has also assisted with the Thomas More HS Girls’ Team throughout the last two seasons. Riley is a certified Milwaukee County Lifeguard.
Riley has been a Schroeder South Senior 1 swimmer for two years and is very familiar with all of the team’s stroke and technique drills and expectations. We’re really excited about having Riley on board our coaching staff, and working with our 12 & Under swimmers.

7. Signing Up For Meets On Your Swimmer’s Meet Schedule:
To enter a meet, click on the swim team home page, and scroll down to the list of meets. Click on “Attend/Decline” for the meet (enter password if necessary). Then click on Undeclared Athletes, scroll to your swimmer’s name, click on the name, commit (put yes) in the declaration box, and click on the save changes box.
Once the swimmer is committed, you may choose the swimmer’s events or have the coach choose the events (recommended).
If your swimmer cannot attend, follow the previous steps and put no in the declaration box. Please use the message box to explain why the swimmer is not participating, and then click on the save changes box.
Parents, please remember Coach Bob automatically commits and enters all Senior 1 and Junior 1 swimmers to the meets on their schedule. Swimmers in all other groups are expected to participate in ALL of the meets on their group’s schedule and must commit by the meet entry deadline. Swimmers who decline a meet are expected to communicate the reason why to their coach. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.
8. New T-Shirt From The Summer Design Contest Coming:
Bellas’ Custom Design has the artwork, and we’re now waiting to hear the ordering details from them. Cammy Kerwin’s idea will be on the front of the shirt and reads: Team Schroeder… Faster Than a School of Squid Nuggets (w/an actual squid nugget in a lane), and Steven Gorski’s design is on the back and says: Goggle It. Stay tuned.
9. Schroeder South Think Tank (SSTT):
All are welcome. It’s a great way to meet other parents, give your input, and help strengthen our team.
SSTT had a great meeting on September 8th. Topics of discussion were: increasing the number of prizes and adding incentives for the upcoming team “Cash for the Holidays” raffle; adding a SST Parent/Alumni “Cabin Fever” Get Together in February featuring refreshments and our own house band - Hot by Ziggy - with Eric, Phil and Adam of our Schroeder North coaching staff; having an all team picture next summer at the Wilson Park practice/cookout.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 3rd at 6:30 p.m. The location has been changed to Front Room Photo, 2637 S. Kinnickinnic Ave, Bay View. A big thanks to the Laber family for offering their beautiful studio space to host the meeting. We will be looking into having some snacks and beverages at the meeting.
Mark your calendars, put on your “Thinking Caps” and join us in the tank :).
