The Big Party Gets Bigger as Opus Affair Looks to the Future of Arts in Boston

Boston, MA (July 8, 2013) – On Sunday, July 28th Boston’s arts, culture, and food/cocktail enthusiasts will come together to share ideas, celebrate accomplishments, and toast the year ahead at The Big Party—a city-wide arts cocktail party, transforming all of Eastern Standard Kitchen and Drinks into a 1920s garden party. Presented by Opus Affair, this second annual event is part capstone, fundraiser, and celebration of five years uniting Boston’s arts community.

“The Big Party, like the monthly Opus Affairs, is an opportunity to take isolated professionals, supporters, and groups who historically haven’t partnered or co-hosted and invite them all together in one room to see what happens,” said Graham Wright, founder and host of Opus Affair. “Its also a chance to focus on Opus, who we are and what we’re doing. We celebrated our five year anniversary this May, asking ourselves and the community ‘What is Opus?’ We hope celebrating what already exists will inspire the community to create even more.”

Opus Affair continues to steadily bridge divides across Boston’s creative community, offering personal, intimate, and small events where individuals can meet and exchange ideas. “Sometimes you don’t have to present the final finished product,” said Wright. “You can follow along behind the scenes. Sometimes the end result is not as consequential as being involved in the process.”

Through years of partnering with some of Boston’s best loved food and drink establishments (like The Big Party venue Eastern Standard), Wright also sees The Big Party as an outreach to the food community, “A number of artists work for restaurants and in the hospitality industry as a whole. The desire to create new things, celebrate them, and learn through community is a common thread of food, arts, and culture.”

Another emphasis this year is fashion, thanks in part to two Boston-based design labels. Tickets purchased before July 10th received a special gift from one of two Boston-based fashion labels: a hand-cut, hand stitched custom dress shirt ($150 value) from Blank Label or a custom-made Kate dress from Bow and Drape. “We’ve been spoiled with amazing food and cocktail sponsors for quite some time now, not to mention the fantastic ticket offers for performances and exhibits across the entire artistic spectrum that we get to include in the gift bags and door prizes, but we’ve never had fashion sponsors before. Now we have two!” The addition underscores Opus Affair’s continuing emphasis on celebrating and honoring all artforms.

The 1920s garden party theme launched in 2012 continues this year (complete with yard games, live dance performances, door prizes, and gift bags) and young professional arts programs from the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Handel and Haydn Society, Huntington Theater Company, Boston Ballet, Celebrity Series, and Boston Lyric Opera will all be participating in the celebration. Liquor  sponsors include Milagro Tequila, Bombay Sapphire, Reyka Vodka, Bacardi, and Basil Hayden. Sponsor Arts Boston is organizing door prizes.

Artists, enthusiasts, and the community at large are invited to attend The Big Party on Sunday, July 28th 2013 at Eastern Standard (528 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215).
