Dear Mr de Laszlos.

Thank. you so very much for your most kind letter & also one from your Secretary – Alas! I was afraid we could not allow ourselves the joy & privilege of a sketch of our Alice[1] by you, but we do appreciate very much your kindness in saying that you could do her for the sum mentioned.[2] There are

things in life one must forego – It has been & always will be the greatest sorrow to me that my beautiful husband Lord Charles[3] has never had his painting done. It would have been a great decoration for Welbeck – & to know in the future . that there was one my good looking Bentinck!!!! However, but again is not to be!
