‘Preparing each child for their future in an ever-changing world’

NEWSLETTER 14                                                                        13th January 2017

From the Headteacher

Parents’ Evenings

Will be held on Tuesday 7th February 4.00 - 6.30pm and Wednesday 8th February 3.30 - 6.00pm and we will be trialling an online booking system through Parentmail, more details to follow.

I have checked the weather forecast for the next week and whilst it looks like we are not expecting anymore snow I thought it would be a good idea to share what happens if we do suddenly get lots!

The decision to shut the school is based on whether we have enough staff to get into school to teach, feed and  supervise the children, the heating and safety around the site.

Once the decision has been made I will contact the local authority and they will put the closure on their website www.oxfordshire.gov.uk .  I will also contact the local radio stations so please look on their Websites and listen to the announcements (Jack FM and Heart).  We will aim to get a parent mail sent and put something on the website/ facebook.  I say ‘aim’ because in the last snow we were without internet access!

If we do get snow and the school is open we usually take the whole school to the field for a snowman making competition so please make sure you send them with sensible footwear, gloves, hats and a warm coat!  It is great fun!

We do go out to play in all weather (not heavy rain) so please make sure your child has a warm coat preferably with a hood. Gloves and hats are also a good idea and please make sure that everything is named.

From the PTA

The next PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday 24th January, 7.30pm in school.

Urgent Vacancy - Can You Help?

We are in desperate need for a Lunchtime Supervisor to join our team on a Wednesday and Thursday each week from 11.50 - 1.10 term-time only.

If you can help, or know someone who can, please contact the School Office.

Notices and Letters

No Nuts/Nut products please

A reminder that we are a 'no nuts' setting at Hagbourne, as we have some children with life-threatening allergies. We have had to send some food items home this week as they can't be opened in school.
Please check all food products that you send into school - nut ingredients are printed in bold within the ingredients list and this help us to keep our children safe.

Headlice and Threadworm

A number of parents have informed us that their children have had repeated cases of threadworms. Please refer to the NHS advice below on what to do if you think your child has threadworms. We have very strict guidelines on cleaning surfaces, sinks and toilets in school, and encourage children to wash their hands well at numerous times over the day, however problems like this can spread very easily.

Please note that the whole family will need to be treated and sometimes a second dose is required to be fully effective.

There have also been reports of head lice, please check your child/children and NHS advice can be found at http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Head-lice/Pages/Treatment.aspx

We’d appreciate donations of old newspapers for a Year 6 Science project, if you are able to help, please leave them at the School Office.

Please ensure that these are of a small, sensible size and are of school colours.

Be Safe and Be Seen - Safety Campaign

The school councillors gave a presentation to the whole school on ‘Be Safe Be Seen’.  This week and next they will be selling reflective items. These range from stick-on reflectors, bike reflectors, snap armbands and key rings. They are priced between 50p and £2.50 and are on sale before and after school near the library door (or in the library if too cold!).

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers

We are again collecting the Active Kids vouchers from Sainsbury’s, do please send any you collect into school - there is a collection box in the School Office.
