Transform using Restructure

In the SPSS menu, select Data  Restructure

Select Restructure selected variables into cases.

Select One.

  • Set Case Group Identification to None.
  • Under Variables to be Transposed, name Target Variable (Plant).
  • Select A, B, and C variables on the left and drag them to box beneath Target Variable.

Notes:

  • The remaining variable(s) (e.g. Age) are either specified explicitly in this step (as Fixed Variables(s)), or carried forward in Step 6 of the Wizard.

Select One.

  • Select Variable names
  • Change Name (Index1) to Group.
    Note: there are three levels: A,B,C.

  • Select Keep and treat as fixed variable(s) (i.e., those variables not selected in Step 3) and Create a case in the new file.

  • Select Restructure the data now.
  • Select Finish.

Optional Sort

Select Data → Sort Cases

  • Drag Type to Sort by box (select Descending under Sort Order), as well as Group (select Ascending), Last (select Descending), and First (select Ascending).

Optional Reorder

Reoder by selecting the Group variable and dragging it before the Type variable.
