(Part 1)

The children will learn to appreciate that they can talk and listen to God. 

How did Jesus shown he loves the children? 

  1. Assessment question.
  2. Ask the the children to whom they like to talk and what they say to that person.
  3. Ask: What do you say to someone you love? What do you think the children on this page will say to God? What would you say to God? Why?
  4. Explain why we need to talk to God.
  5. Have the children look at the pictures on the page.
  6. Have the children make up a story about what might be happening each part of the picture.
  7. Ask: To what family do we belong to? What would you thank God for? How would thank  God in a prayer?

 Talking to God

(Part 1)

The children will learn to appreciate that they can talk and listen to God. 

 How would thank  God in a prayer? 

  1.  Ask assessment question.
  2. Ask: What do you say to someone you love? What do you think the children on this page will say to God? What would you say to God? Why?
  3. Take the children outside.
  4. Give each child a piece of crepe paper.
  5. Have the children listen to the wind.
  6. Let them pretend they are wind moving through the world.
  7. Encourage them to move about using their crepe paper streamers to imitate the wind.
  8. Have the children talk to God as they move about and let the wind taker their prayers up to God.
  9. Ask: To whom did you send that prayer to? What did you tell God on that prayer? Do you know of other ways of praying? (sinsing) Why do you think we should thank God?

Talking to God

(Part 2)

The children will learn to become more comfortable with prayer and with talking to God at any time and in any place. 

 Why do you think we should talk to God?

  1. Ask assessment question.
  2. The teacher will explain that we are going to play a guessing game.
  3. The teacher will pantomime different situations with exaggerated motion without speaking.
  4. Have the children guess the situations.
  5. The teacher will explain that no matter what time of day it is or what we are doing, we can always talk to God and tell God whatever is in your hearts.
  6. The teacher will pantomime eating a meal again, but this time, before I begin to “eat,” I will fold my hands, bow my head, and pray silently for a minute.
  7. Ask the children if they can guess what I was doing.
  8. Distribute Activity P. 112.
  9. Read the lines on top.
  10. Ask the children what might be happening.
  11. Ask: What are the children doing? When are they praying? When can we talk to God? What would you say to God?
  12. Help the children make a paying candle.

The children will begin to appreciate when and how they can pray to God through song

 When can we talk to God?

  1. Ask assessment question .
  2. Remind the children they can talk to God at any time and in any place.
  3. Have the children name some of the times that they talk to God.
  4. Select three responses and make a graph.
  5. Have the children choose one of these as his or her favorite time to talk to God.
  6. Have the children put their candles made in part two of this lesson on the graph.
  7. Distribute Activity P. 113.
  8. Explain that the children in the in these pictures are praying.
  9. Ask:  What are the children doing? What do you think each one is saying to God? Why do you think the children are praying?
