New Races - The Viera and The Hrothgar [3] Can be created in the benchmark.
Viera - Trailer - Emotes
Of tall stature and slender frame, the Viera's physical appearance is strikingly similar to that of the Hyur and Elezen, save for their distinctive long ears. Adhering to a strict code known as the Green Word, they are prohibited from contact with the outside world under threat of exile. Their society is purely matriarchal, and males of age are seldom, if ever, found within the bounds of any village. They instead serve as protectors of the wood from the shadows, that no evil may ever encroach on their sacred lands. [10]
Viera of the Rava clan live primarily in the Golmore Jungle, their umber skin allowing them to readily blend in with their surroundings. Though the males stand as wards of the forest, as the females are adept hunters in their own right, fiercely guarding their homes and their young. Despite attempts by the Dalmascans to subjugate them, they have ever maintained a self-governing dominion. Though most would adhere to the tradition of the wood, some few have chosen to venture out into the world. [10]
With skin as fair as the snow capped mountains towering above, the Veena clan make their homes in the forests lining the southwestern foothills of the Skatay Range. Like the members of their sister clan, the Veen live as hunters and gatherers, laboring not only to protect the wood, but to nurture them. As the winds of war swept up a number of those who left their mountain homes, many such hardened hunter's chose to set out for the distant shores of Eorzea. [10]
Hrothgar - Trailer - Emotes
Hailing from the distant shores of Ilsabard, the Hrothgar are a burly people of lionlike appearance—or the males are, at least. Females number staggeringly few among their population, and thus are rarely so much as glimpsed by the other races. The Hrothgar's imposing countenance─mitigated not at all by their sharp claws and still sharper fangs—incited panic amongst Eorzeans upon their arrival. As they were also unable to communicate, initial interactions with the common folk often escalated into conflict. It was not until the Hrothgar gained mastery of the common tongue that fears were allayed, and in time they would be as neighbors, welcome in all corners of the realm. [10]
Hrothgar of the Helion clan are easily discerned from their counterparts by the warm color of their fur. In ages past, they could be found primarily in the southern region of Ilsabard, debout servants of their queen, one and all. Though they themselves had no word to describe their clan, scholars came to call them “Helions” after observing how the people’s lives all but revolved about their queen’s needs, as plants circle the sun. [10]
Unlike their Helion brethren, the Lost have always been a free-spirited people, aptly named for their traditionally nomadic lifestyle unbound by the whims of any reigning monarch. They are known to ply various trades - from seasonal worker to mercenary, to peddler. They are reluctant, however, to undertake duties at odds with their propensity to travel. The cold, wintry colors of their fur are said to serve as a symbol of their independent nature, which drove them far from the warm embrace of their queen. [10]
- Taller than Roegadyn - if they stood upright, but they are hunched over. [8]
- No decision on whether future expansions will include other genders, but they are reviewing player feedback. [9][12]
- Many unique customisable features. [6]
- Both have unique heads. [6]
- Most Helmets will not show on either race - unless they replace the head entirely, like the Fat Chocobo Head. [8]
- Yoshida wants to think of a way to reduce Development costs of this when the team isn’t so busy, so it might be added later. [8]
- Following feedback after the Tokyo Fan Fest, the character team has used their spare time to carefully modify more than 540 items to use on the new races. [17]
- Younger looking playable characters will not be added for ethical reasons. [17]
- Races in the First have different names [6]
- Hyur - Humes
- Miqo’te - Mystel

TP will be removed and MP will be capped. [31]

- TP will be removed, and affected actions will be revised so that they may be used more freely. [31]
- TP and MP have gone down seperate paths, TP isn’t cared about anymore and players don’t have to manage it, TP just floats there because it feels like it, you rarely run out and new players don’t even know why it’s there, whereas MP management is a part of the game. [20]
- Want to make the resource management simple as possible as players need to keep track of DoTs, GCDs and CD Timers. [20]

- Current Ability Changes
- New Abilities
- Whilst there’s 49 spells available at level 50, they already have around 128 spells ready to be added in the future. [20]
Raids
8-Player: Eden
Beyond the boundaries of Norvrandt lies the Empty─a land drowned in the primordial light of the Flood. To redress the balance of the elements, our hero must wield a power the likes of which the First has never known. The power of Eden. [10]
- “Very Final Fantasy Feel” [1]
- In the first, all the other elements are gone, except light. The Warrior of Darkness has to restore the other elements, and that story will be told through Eden. [6]
- Can’t comment on how closely it’s tied to the main story. But if they were to make raids part of the main story, it’s okay as they have the normal difficulty raids for more casual players. [9]
- Later Comment: Tied to the Main Story in the same in which Binding Coil was, with a stronger relation between MSQ and the Raid Story. [75]
- Gaia - uses a hammer. What will her role be? [6]
- Character and Boss Design by Tetsuya Nomura. [6]
- Same production team as Kefka and Final Omega, including Mr.Ozma [6][13]
- New mechanics that will confuse and surprise you - developers were grinning in pride when showcasing them to Yoshida. [8]
- Will be making a “pivot” on how to make the final bosses on Savage mode more exciting, rather than using the gatekeeper bosses and excluding the “true” boss from normal mode, will not be how it’s done before. [64][75]
- Coffer drops, such as “Accessory Coffer” for equipment in all turns, not just Turn 4. [67][75]
- Tracing and copying for clears might be difficult. [75]
- Players expect FF8 references and they “don't want to betray those expectations” [76]
- Pure coincidence that FF8 remaster was announced at the same time. [76]
- Estimating the same difficulty as Alexander Creator (9-12) savage. [76]
Ultimate
- Ultimate Tier Raids will return. [1][18]
- Unending Coil and Ultimate Weapon Ultimate:
- No plans to raise the minimum item level nor allowing unsynced. So the value of the titles or weapons associated with that will be maintained. [62][78]
- Making plans for the next Ultimate as well, so we will be revealing information when it becomes available. [62]
- Almost certainly will be two, and the third one will be dependant on how well they do in the first 2. The discussion is still ongoing. [62]
- Closer to UCoB In terms of difficulty. Tracing and Copying for a clear might be difficult. [75]
- More random elements. [75]
24-Player: YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse [3]
- Collaboration with NieR, with special guest creators [3]
- Executive Producer for NieR series and Dragon Quest X and Dragon Quest XI
- Writer and Director for the NieR and Drakengard universe
- YoRHa will become to make more sense as they reveal more information about Shadowbringers. Saito and Yoko Taro are both working to make sure it blends with FFXIV. They don’t want the community to reject it, and they don’t want to impose too much on the NieR community, so they are trying to make sure it’s something both sides of the collaboration can enjoy. [4]
Dungeons, Trials & Other PvE Content
9 New Dungeons - Trailer [1]
- Interesting that this is 9, Heavensward and Stormblood both had 8
- Most dungeons are main story related. [76]
- Later half dungeons will be “surprising” [76]
- 1) Lv73: Dohn Mheg [6]
Trials
A being of great power, Titania holds sway over the pixies and other fae folk of Il Mheg - folk who, despite their notoriously temperamental natures, bow before their rulers one and all. [10]
- “The center circle might drop and make a giant hole!”
- Innocence
Innocence sits at the top of the hierarchy of Sin Eaters - the beings that emerged from the Flood to plague what remains of mankind. Beyond that, its nature and purpose remain shroud in mystery. [10]
- Plays a large role in 5.0 [6]
- One of the trials will “throw a curveball” at the standard “2 phase with transition” phase Trials we have been used too. [75]
Exploration Expeditions
- Diadem will be touched up. [16]
- Will be trying something new again [15]
Trust System [1]
- Won’t be the same as Final Fantasy XIs Trust. [1]
- Accessed through the Duty sub-menu with a Special UI [59] [59]
- Unlocked at Lv71, directly before the first dungeon. [73]
- Main Scenario dungeons only and takes approximately 30 minutes per dungeon with Trust. [77]
- Does not replace Party Matching, just an alternative, player with other players will be faster and more effective. [1][77]
- If the player is KOed, the dungeon has to be started over completely, but not if the NPCs are. [77]
- Select NPCs will join players looking to progress through Shadowbringers solo. [1]
- NPCs available: [6][59][77]
- Thancred (GBR)
- “Witch” Y’shtola(BLM)
- Urianger(AST)
- “Oracle of Light” Minfilia(NIN)
- “Academcian”Alphinaud(SCH)
- Alisaie(RDM)
- Plan to add more NPCs as they go. [1]
- All characters have unique voice lines, actions and text to go with them. [59][77]
- The NPCs available will change depending on the story. Thancred isn’t supposed to be available for Dohn Mheg, like he was in the media tour, the next dungeon will have Y’shtola available [73]
- “Throughout the main story progression, these NPCs that join you in battle are the real deal. However, as the main story progresses even further through future patches, considering these characters have their own role to play in the story, there will be cases where you cannot always bring them together with you. From there, their phantoms will be entrapped within the crystal by utilizing a certain technology, and from there you may bring them into dungeons. When that happens their level will be at 70, and you’ll be able to raise your favorite member among the ones available.” [73]
- Specialised AI is programmed to represent the behaviour and attitude of characters [73]
- Some AI will avoid some AoE but not all. [59]
- Y’shtola and Minfilia won’t use LB when the player is a DPS, but Alisaie will. [73]
- The way each AI approaches dungeon mechanics varies. [73]
- Gear from Trust Dungeons is reduced to approximately ¼ the rate of Light Party drops, but you will still get the guaranteed drop from the final boss. [73]
- Want to make Trust available in as much content as possible, player feedback while determine the direction. [75]
New Game+ [1]
- Scheduled for 5.1. [76]
- Replay old quests, but at the strength of your current character. [1]
- Use this to revisit and replay old main story, job, class quests etc.[3]
- Even if you used the skip books, you can still use this to replay the quests. [3]
- Initial release will have 3 parts, A Realm Reborn, Heavensward and Stormblood. [76]
- Will also cover Job quests and alliance raids. [76]
- You can toggle things such as “reset all” and “mark all as cleared” [76]
- How much it is expanded depends on feedback [76]
- You CANNOT "just rewatch Haurchefant's scene". You will need to start from the beginning of heavensward. [76]
Deep-Dungeon
- There will be another one. [4]
Relics
- Torn on whether to make relic weapons enhancement process more like A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, or to continue with them in Eureka style content like Stormblood, they were surprised many players actually liked the older style of Relics. [9]
- Going to try and find a good happy medium between the two styles. [61]
Other
- Deliberating in the team the idea of a “Hall of the Veteran” area to teach players more advanced game mechanic concepts such as postionals and DoT Uptime. [63]
- Would love to give extra rewards to doing old content with minimum item level, such as unique gear and titles, but there’s some technical challenges in the way, but the desire is definitely there. [63]
- The Hunt: We’re going to keep it a secret as to what this is, but there will be some kind of update made to the Hunt. [66]
- Dungeons of Lyhe Ghiah, 5.0 Lost Canals, opening 4 weeks after official release. [77]
New Enemies
Beast Tribes
- What defines a Beast Tribe is determined by the era and politics of the time - for example, if the Garleans conquered The Source, they may have designated all other races a Beast Tribe. [8]
- High possibility that primal summoning can occur in the First as well, whether that relates to primals appearing in 5.0 is a different story. [8]
The Nu Mou [1]
Though somewhat canine in appearance, the Nu Mou are indeed members of the fae, and make their homes in Il Mheg. They are more fairly disposed toward man than their pixie cousins, however, and maintained close ties with the people of Voeburt in its day. [10]
The Pixies [1]
Though they boast a command of magic unrivaled in Norvrandt, pixies generally limit their sphere of activity to Il Mheg, dancing amongst the winds on colorful wings. Do not be fooled, however─they are often as cruel as they are carefree. [10]
- Reside in Il Mheg [3]
- Primal: Titania [3]
- Will bring lots of strange things to your adventures [3]
- Tricksters, but not as much as a pain in the ass as the moogles [3]
- Proficient in the Arcane Arts [3]
The Dwarves [1]
This insular tribe dwells upon Mt. Gulg in Kholusia, its diminutive people rarely leaving the community of their birth. Dwarves are known for their skill at mining, metallurgy, and crafting mechanical marvels, but they themselves consider the true marks of dwarfhood to be respect for tradition and adherence to strict ancestral laws. [10]
- Never without their helmets [6]
- Never without their beards [6]
- Experts in mining and metallurgy [6]
- Have their own little villages. [6]
- Tall races may be unable to enter the Dwarves houses! [6]
- Might be able to wear their helmets if you become their ally. [8]
- There is a reason Lamimi doesn’t wear a beard and helmet despite coming from the First. [8]
- If you play Lalafell, the Dwarves may consider you a Dwarf that abandoned Dwarven Laws. [8]
Disciples of the Land and Hand
Restoration of the Holy See of Ishgard [1]
The Dragonsong War has long since ended, but its scars yet remain. As man and dragon work together to restore the Holy See to glory, they aim to lay the cornerstone of the new Ishgard─the Firmament. However, nations are not rebuilt in a day, and this one has come to find it wants for helping hands... [10]
- This will be implemented in 5.1 [79]
- End-game content for DotL and DotH [1]
- The 1000-year conflict has come to an end, but the scars of battle remain. [1]
- We want the gatherers and crafters of the realm to come together to rebuild the Holy See of Ishgard. [1]
- Maybe you’ll be able to see some of those characters that you loved from Ishgard. [3]
- Storyline and content for all of 5.x, not just 5.0 [6]
- There will be a ranking system for the Ishgard restoration. He used the feast as an example and said there will be seasons for it. [76]
- Those who want rare titles and flashy primary tools will need to level their jobs first and then have the perfect gear and materia and then challenge extremely difficult recipes. [76]
- For those who only do battle content and don't gather or craft as much, the Ishgard restoration area does have ways in which those people can participate with lower level classes. [76]
- There's a system where players can purchase a "restoration ticket" which they can use to contribute to the restoration and also gain rewards from the lottery if they are lucky. [76]
- After the restoration reaches a certain point, something like a "seasonal event" will be held irregularly and you can participate in those to gain rewards. [76]
- Each world (server) will have its own progression, so players can compete/race with other servers to restore Ishgard faster. [76]
- You can also use the world visit system for take a look at other servers and see their progress. [76]
Discipline Quests
- Five sets of new quests will be added [31]
- Five Disciplines that crafters and gatherers are broken into that they can get quests for [31]

- Red Scrips will no longer be obtainable [33]
- From Patch 5.0 you will be able to exchange Red scrips for Yellow scrips in Revenant’s Toll (X22 Y6) [33]
- Can no longer exchange Red scrips for items [33]
- Blue scrips will be removed, please spend them prior to 5.0 maintenance [33]
Player versus Player
- As a general rule, there will not be PvP updates in x.0 updates. [35]
- Frontline update in 5.1, not necessarily a new rule, but an update to an old one. [62]
The Feast
- Discussing how to fix matchmaking issues due to having 6 Ranged DPS jobs in Shadowbringers. [30]
- Being open-minded in options to fix this, such as making it a role-free system, along with improvements or changes to the rules of the Feast. [30]
- An endless list of things they want to fix and improve, such as high responsibility for healers, difficulty in understanding the medals system, winning team stalling and more. [30]
- Making a PvP exclusive server and copying characters onto it would be the fastest way to make cross-datacenter PvP happen, but requires a lot of preparation and work, but top priority is to improve the matchmaking issues. [30]
- Might be interesting to increase the variety of maps after establishing clear regulations from the beginning. [30]
- Push and Pull resistances being added. [30]

- No major updates to Free Companies any time soon. [18]
- “Need a little more time” for FC Alliances [25]
Server Updates
- No plans to re-organise Japanese Datacenters as was done with NA and EU. [18]
- Chinese and Korean versions: It is difficult to be in perfect sync. We think that it would be nice if C-FFXIV and K-FFXIV can be synced in version. Developers in Japan are working on all versions including global and it’s financially difficult to achieve. Yet, both developers and adventurers think it’s efficient that way. “When” is the question that we’re discussing now. [21]
Quality of Life
- Friend’s list capacity increase “might take until” 5.0/5.x to expand due to a crucial problem. [18][23]

- A notification when you are in Furiten. [27]
- A player calling Ron will have priority over Pon or Chi. [27]
- Auto-declare Hand completion, this will be reset to off after each round. [27]
- No new content in 5.0, but they have content planned for 5.1. As a general rule, no Gold Saucer updates in x.0 patches. [35]
- Triple Triad [35]
- Currently drafting plans for revising rules for deck compositions for a future update. [35]
- Blitzball is a very difficult to implement into an MMO due to the difference in what people want. [60]
- “Maybe” snowboarding in the near future. [60]
Mobile Companion App
- First being updated to accommodate Shadowbringers changes. [35]
- Want to make it so you can send Retainers on ventures from the app. [35]
- Later, functionalities that you can only access from the app, so players will have unique ways to interface with FFXIV independent of the game client. [35]
Miscellaneous
- Would like to add new content for retainers and chocobo companions after Squadron Updates [19]
- Source code for Chocobo companions was updated at 4.4, so hopefully we can make updates little by little to your companion moving forward. [63]
- Mentor System updates at “some point” [18][77]
- Requirements being revised to Level 80 [77]
- Players with mentor status will keep their status throughout 5.0 even without new requirements and be reminded they need to obtain new mentor status during 5.1, before losing it in 5.2 if still not met. [77]
- “Absolutely not” considering F2P - a quick profit is not the right way, it’s better to encourage a larger player base with a lower spend per individual and to establish a healthy future. [21]
- Level 35 trial is as F2P as XIV will go for the foreseeable future. [22]
- Have to re-log for skin to apply after changing theme [31]
- More skins will be made available during patches, but they won’t be adding a new theme in every patch [31]
- Depending on feedback from Blue Mage, the system could be used to add other jobs they would otherwise find hard to implement into FFXIV such as Beastmaster and Puppeteer. [25]
- FFXIVxPSO2 crossover will not expand into FFXIV content, because PSO2 is a Japan only game, where as FFXIV is worldwide. [60]
- Definitely want to address refining the main scenario at some point, the story of ARR is very long, sometime during 5.x. [63][78]
- Yoshida has some concepts for bringing together new and veteran players, or helping new players find other new players to play with. [63]
- It is inevitable that congestion will happen, like Raubahn, regardless of preparation made, but some changes were made in 4.4 to help with this, and the team has been testing it internally, as well in the live game with the Hien instance in 4.56 [68]
- Skip Books:
- New story skip book to complete story content up from Stormblood. [76]
- Lv60 Boosts removed, and replaced with Lv70 Boosts [76]
Supported Systems Updates
Other Platforms
- Talks with platform-holders (Nintendo, Microsoft and Google) are ongoing. They want to bring FFXIV to as many platforms as possible and are currently negotiating with all of them. [22]

- It won’t immediately stop working, but you’ll be experience things like memory crashing. [1]
- Mac Client will be updated into a new 64-bit version on 6 June 2019, early access in late May. [26]
- Alleviates a lot of debug on the development team. [62]
- Will allow them to render more objects, in housing or raid content for example. [62]

- No mention of when this will be added to the game - may not be in 5.0. If it follows previous trends of gear from these competitions, it’ll be a whole set of equipment designed after it, like the Skalla and Lost Allagan set in Stormblood.

As mentioned at the top of the document, please bear in mind a lot of information in this document is from interviews and early builds of the game, everything is subject to change and mistakes. A few notable examples of these in the past:
Astrologians Bole tooltip in English in pre-release versions of the game stated the target would take more damage - not less damage.
Machinists Flamethrower was listed as 6 potency, not 60, and their Heat Gauge was shown as a 20% decrease, not an increase.
Scholars Fey Union, even in the release version of Stormblood said it cannot be used on yourself, even though it could.
Foe Requiems tooltip said it reduces the targets damage dealt by 3%, not increases damage taken by 3%.
There’s many, many examples of these, so they are likely present in Shadowbringers pre-release versions of the game too. Please take this into consideration when discussing the skills :)
