Dear Sir,

Believe me I am quite as distressed as you are at the delay in the reproduction of your pictures [4221] [4535]. Unfortunately they came at a time when we were almost overwhelmed with work for our Autumn season and inevitably things must take their due turn in rotation. Moreover, for some reason neither picture has been particularly easy to do.

I had hoped to have a proof of Lady Alistair Graham [4535] on Tuesday next but Lady Bathurst insisted on the picture being brought back from the Works this morning for her to see. This means that we have lost 48 hours work so that I am afraid the delay will be even longer. Believe me I will do my level best to get a proof to you before you sail because, as apart from
