Welcome back to school and welcome to our new families from the teachers in Year 3.

We look forward to an exciting learning journey together this year. This is a special year for Elm Park School, being our jubilee year.

At the beginning of each term a newsletter will go on line (the school blog and Facebook) to inform you of our programmes at school and keep you informed about general information that you will need to know.

If you are unsure of anything, please feel free to speak to your child’s teacher.

Important dates this term:

  • 6 February: Waitangi Day
  • 15 February: Parent Information Evening
  • 24 March: Year 3 swimming gala
  • 5/6 April: 3 Way Learning Conferences
  • 13 April: Last day of Term 1

Our learning focus for the term:

This year is very special as Elm Park School will celebrate its 50th  jubilee. The main celebration will be held on Saturday 28 October with many other activities planned throughout the year.

Our inquiry for the year will be around Celebrations and Remembrance. This term we will be  focussing on ourselves as learners - how we learn, what does and does not help us learn and how we can help ourselves.

Along with this, we will be focussing on keeping ourselves safe in the water by learning water skills.

Useful information

B Y O D

A reminder that as part of the BYOD programme,  students in Years 3 - 6 have the option to bring

their own devices to school. This facility is available to support their learning.

The device choice is restricted to Chromebooks only.

More information can be found on this slideshow and in this booklet.

Please contact Ms Johnston for any clarifications with regards to the BYOD programme (belinda@elmpark.school.nz).

Uniforms:

Please ensure that your child is in the correct school uniform and that all items of clothing are clearly named, hat and shoes included. All students are required to wear school hats every day in Terms 1 and 4. School shoes need to be plain BLACK.  Please do not buy shoes with coloured soles and laces. Students in incorrect school uniform will need a note from parents.

Food policy:

Students are not allowed to share any food or drink with others. Fizzy drinks, lollies/ chocolates are not allowed in school. Elm Park School  is a litter-free school. All lunch box rubbish will be sent home. Lunches can be ordered from the lunch room, either online or at the beginning of the day.

Water skills:

Each class will have three water skills sessions per week. It is important that your child comes prepared on the required days. All swimming gear and school uniform needs to be named (underwear included)  and brought to school in a named waterproof bag. If the weather is changeable, the teacher will make a decision whether the class swims or not.

Library:

Your child will visit the school library every week. Please ensure that the borrowed book is returned promptly, before the next visit to the library. We trust that the library books that are taken home will be looked after.

Homework:

Please spend some time every night reading with your child. Poems, readers and library books will be sent home on a regular basis. Only poem books will be sent home on Fridays. Homework will include spellings and basic facts and will be sent home weekly on Mondays and tested on Fridays.

Being prepared for the day:

We ask for your support in ensuring that your child has brought their bookbag with homework book and reader to school each day. It helps the students prepare for the day if they are in school before the 8.55 am bell.  Students can come into classrooms when the bell rings at 8.30am. Students arriving earlier will need to wait outside Rm 18.
