This Library Carpentry lesson introduces librarians to working with visualization in Google Spreadsheets, RAWGraphs and Plot.ly. At the conclusion of the lesson you will understand: how to work with pivot tables to explore and summarize data; how to publish graphs in Google Spreadsheets; how to use RAWGraphs to create more advanced visualizations and plot.ly to create interactive graphs. On the one hand, we learn to work with certain tools, on the other hand, we gather “tool-agnostic” visualization skills.
In this lesson, you will work with the datasets you cleaned in the previous OpenRefine session. If you could not fully process the datasets, you can download the cleaned versions here. For this lesson you need an account for Google Drive, as well as a free community account for Plot.ly. You also need to make sure you have a working connection to the internet. The exercises can be done via either the Google Chrome or Firefox web browser.
