Hi, Kristine.

You can’t choose who to love because what you want isn’t exactly what you need. You may have an idea of the kind of person you want to love, but that’s not how it works. God created humans as pairs, as two halves of a whole. You’re like a puzzle piece that can only be complete when combined with another piece that complements your edges and curves.

Loving someone is accepting them despite their flaws and shortcomings. Loving someone is understanding they can’t be the personification of your ideals, but you love them just the same. Loving someone is staying with that person through the good times and the bad. Loving someone is seeing their worst and helping them be their best.

You may not choose who to love but you can choose to stay in love, to deepen that love... to accept that love. We can’t help falling in love with someone. But love does not end with it. It isn’t just about romance. Love is also work, compromise, and sacrifice.

Don’t fret and think that you don’t have a choice. You always do. But also remember that God has bigger plans for you. You may not understand it at first but take a step back, see the signs, think of the reasons why He gave you someone you didn’t choose to love. Maybe he needs you. Maybe you need him. Remember that love is a choice and it always has a purpose.

Sincerely,

Cupid
