iPads in the Classroom
Facilitator(s): Steve Clark
I added these points below from what I think we covered in the session today. Please feel free to add to these points. Please feel free to contact me through any of the channels listed below.
Guiding Questions:
1. Why an iPad?
- power of creating - camera, microphone, on-screen manipulation
- Ease of use
- Engaging
- students are very comfortable with this technology
2. What are important things to keep in mind when using iPads
- We need to change the mindset of an iPad as a toy to a learning tool
- Certain apps won’t let you export finished product - this is often a key factor on whether or not you purchase, or download, app in the first place
- The power of iPad is in its ability for students to create video, manipulate photos, record voice and, or draw with fingers.
- When iPads are shared with many students, they fill up with “stuff” fast. Students (AND teachers) need to learn to use them efficiently and delete projects as they are completed and exported off the device.
3. Where to start?
- writing over top of picture (pic collage app, skitch etc)
- record audio (garageband, Voice Recorder for iPad)
- drawing with iPad (doodle buddy, adobe ideas, paper53, etc)
- create video/record video (tellagami, video scribe)
- draw, record and explain (Explain Everything, ShowMe, Doceri)
- App Smash - Make various products in different apps, then import them into iMovie or Explain Everything and ‘smash’ them together to create a final video
