17th July, 1937.
Knowing how busy you are I was very touched to receive your very kind letter.[1] I need not say how much we missed greeting you and Lady Keyes[2] amongst our friends here at the Garden Party on the 15th. I would also have liked to have shown you myself the various portraits I have in the studio. Amongst them I am finishing one of the Archbishop of Canterbury [6171], and then there are those of the Prince of Nepal [7090] and Prince Chichibu of Japan [7897]. I know it would have interested you to see them. But some of them will still be here and there will be others by the end of September when we return from the country and when we hope you will both pay us a quiet visit. We leave immediately after the Garden Party at Buckingham Palace and our address will be
Bedales,
Lindfield,
Hayward’s Heath, Sussex.
We are both looking forward to an absolute rest and I hope to get on with the dictation of my Life. Is there any chance of seeing you sometime during the holiday? What strenuous times the present Government is experiencing. They need the support of all responsible men so that they do not fall

into the temptations laid for them by irresponsible socialists.
With our best wishes for a perfect summer holiday to you both,
Yours very sincerely,
