What is Title I?

Cleveland Elementary is identified as a Title I school as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). The purpose of Title I is to ensure that each child has a fair and equal opportunity at a high-quality education. Title I supports state and local reform efforts and enhances teaching and learning.

Cleveland Elementary is committed to making sure parents are knowledgeable about the opportunities described in this parent involvement plan.

Parent Involvement

Communication between the school and parents is extremely important to Cleveland Elementary. We believe that regular two-way communication about student learning and other school events and activities ensures:

  • That parents continue to work with their children & stay involved in their learning.
  • That parents are encouraged and welcomed in volunteering & participating in the classroom and school-wide events.
  • That parents are involved in all aspects of their child’s education.

School-Parent Compacts

A school-parent compact will be developed together by our teachers, parents and students. This compact will explain how we will work together to ensure that each child meets  the expected grade-level standards. The compacts will be reviewed, revised and edited each year. The compacts will be reviewed and updated annually based on feedback given from parents & teachers at the Annual Title I meeting in the fall, the  Stakeholder’s Meeting in the spring, & during quarterly School Council Community Team meetings. The compacts will be kept on file at school. You may request a copy of your child’s compact at any time.

School Plan for Shared

Student Achievement

What is it?  This plan explains how Cleveland Elementary School will provide opportunities to improve parent involvement to help support student learning. Cleveland Elementary supports parent engagement. This plan describes how parents can participate in activities and events that will help promote student learning at home and at school. Together we can create a partnership where we can work towards the common goal of improving student achievement.

How is it developed? This plan is developed by the Cleveland Elementary community through our stakeholder’s meeting, workshop evaluations, annual parent surveys, meeting evaluations and parent feedback given to our parent liaison. The Parent Involvement Plan is posted on our school website and can be viewed at any time. Suggestions and feedback to the plan & the district or school goals, positive or unsatisfactory, are welcomed and encouraged.  Parent comment cards can be found in the front office, on our website, or in our parent resource room. You can also provided feedback on our annual survey. All suggestions will be used to help revise the plan & district & school goals for next year.

Who is it for? The activities and opportunities described in this plan are for all students and families of students who are targeted and placed in the Title I program. Families with limited English or with disabilities will be provided with full opportunities to participate by providing translations or a translator.

Where is it available? The Parent Involvement Plan is sent home at the beginning of each school year and will be available at all parent meetings conducted throughout the year.  Copies of the plan can also be picked up in the front office or the Title I parent resource room during school hours.  The plan  is always available on our school website.

  • We will maintain a parent resource room that has a variety of materials that parents can check out for at-home learning.
  • We will schedule conferences and Data Date meetings twice a year  to keep parents updated on their child’s academic progress,  to help parents learn ways to monitor this progress and finally, to get materials to work with their child at home.
  • We will offer quarterly School Community Team meetings, & an annual Stakeholder’s Meeting for parents to collaborate on parent involvement policy and  be informed of developments schoolwide.
  • We will involve parents in the decision of how to spend the One Percent Parent Involvement Funds and listen to parent requests for workshops and other activities through our annual parent survey and our stakeholder meeting.
  • We will work together as partners with parents by equipping them with tools to use at home through our Backpack Program, and our parent workshops throughout the year.
  • We will provide weekly academic tips, internet links & instructional video through our weekly newsletter.
  • We will ask parents to recommend strategies to keep faculty and staff abreast of effective parent engagement practices & the benefits of including parents as partners. We will  incorporate these recommendations as training in our staff meetings.
