Palestine Zines Reading List

This collection of resources aims to inspire and empower you to delve deeper into the rich history of Palestine and its profound significance in the global struggle for liberation. We underscore the vital importance of gaining a comprehensive understanding of Palestine's history and the relevant theoretical frameworks, as these insights are invaluable for effectively supporting the fight against neoliberal institutions and the perpetuation of settler colonialism.

Furthermore, these theories serve as a solid foundation for comprehending the complex dynamics of capitalism and imperialism, enabling us to better grasp current global issues and guide our practical actions. To dismantle the forces of Zionism and Western imperialism, it is imperative for individuals to comprehend their inner workings. Thus, reading is not merely a leisurely pursuit; it is a powerful tool that we can wield in our quest for liberation.

Within this resource compilation, you will find an array of materials, including zines, both fiction and nonfiction books, excerpts, websites, videos, films, and concise essays. Action items:

  • Wear a mask for anonymity and covid safety—sunglasses are good too
  • Turn off your phone, or at least put on airplane mode, turn off location, GPS, wifi, bluetooth, use encrypted texting (like Signal) etc. Have written phone numbers with you if you need it (maybe include your local National Lawyers Guild’s number)
  • Do not riot, do not engage with counter protesters, do not harass bystanders, do not interfere with police (if you must, here are tips on how to navigate that)
  • Donate money: If you know of local groups organizing for Palestine, give them money. Otherwise:

Palestine Red Crescent Society

Baitulmaal

Medical Aid for Palestinians

Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestine refugees in the near east

Islamic Relief USA

  • Call government officials: use this tool or this tool to get automated calls that will patch you to your senators and representatives, and provide scripts for you to read
  • Email government officials: use this tool to do the same as above but with emails
  • Boycott israeli brands: more info on the specifics of boycotting and divestment here, some of the big names to avoid are HP, Sabra, soda stream, Puma–also Express VPN
  • Amplify Palestinian media: if you’re on social media anyways, use it to spread awareness of what’s going on, why it matters, and what people can do about it (feel free to share this doc). Most platforms are already starting to censor pro-palestinian posts, so do things like posting screenshots of text instead of in-app text (e.g. with ig stories)
  • Talk to people in real life: the more people you can get to participate in any of the above action items, the better. Anyone you can—friends, family, coworkers, comrades in whatever other areas of organizing—have conversations with them. For a lot of people, this may be the most significant way you can contribute.
