Adobe Creative Cloud Basics

Learn the essential skills you need to begin using the core Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign. Learn how to work with and photographs and images, to create logos and graphics designs, to edit video, and to use desktop publishing to create complex posters, flyers, brochures, and other documents.

No prior knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications necessary.

French Snacks

Bienvenue au gouter!

Students will explore French and francophone culture in greater depth. Le gouter, which means "snack time" in French, will be the focus of every class. The students will learn about the rituals, routines, and vocabulary surrounding food and mealtime in French culture.  In each class, we will enjoy one of the foods that typically makes up the French afternoon snack, like tartines, crepes, baguettes, and foods from other French-speaking countries like Morocco and Burkina Faso. We will also include art, music, and geography activities about the francophone world to accompany our snacks as the students improve their French language skills while having fun.

Home Skills

Grades 3-5 are invited to learn home skills on Wednesday afternoons this semester. We will touch on four hand crafts: crochet, knitting, felting, and sewing. We will also learn some fun cooking skills, such as how to make the ultimate mac and cheese and how to make your own soda. Join us for a crafty good time.

Homework Club

Homework Club provides an opportunity for students who need a supportive, quiet environment to complete their homework at school. The ratio will be six children to one adult or less.

Mr. Tim’s Tech-spolration

This is an opportunity to explore and play with computers and technology on your own - things that we have done together in class and things that we haven't. Maybe you'd like to spend more time building with virtual Lego blocks, or doing your own animation, or playing logic games, or even practicing your typing. Maybe you want to write a play or make music or learn to edit a video. Maybe you'd like to work with Scratch or learn to program in Python. Or maybe you'd like to do something else with technology. This is your chance!

Oak Hill School students only, except with prior permission. Grades 1-5.

Robotics

Introduction to robotics and engineering. This class discusses intro to simple programming, design, and troubleshooting of Lego Mindstorm robots. For participants with more experience with Lego robotics, more advanced projects will be given. This class will eventually give participants the skills to compete in a Lego robotics tournament and will include mock tournaments and other competitions between participants.

Strings

Join the Oak Hill after-school Strings class!  Build on musical skills and play with friends.  All stringed instruments welcome; beginners to advanced players.  Depending on ages and abilities, the class will break into smaller chamber ensembles.  Students will collaborate to create a concert at the end of the semester.  A wonderful way to build and maintain your child's enthusiasm about learning music!

Yoga

We will explore the beginnings of yoga in a fun and creative way, focusing on fun and the fundamentals of the stretches to give students an introduction to yoga. We will learn the basics of breathing that is key to yoga flow. Themes will include the natural environment and animals. Students will also be given a chance to explore their own interest in yoga with the class.

Young Company

Oak Hill’s Young Company will continue with its seventh season starting in September. Basic acting technique, movement, improvisation, characterization, and observation will be taught in a safe and creative environment. This class will reinforce many of the principles that are introduced in public speaking, allowing the student to sharpen his/her abilities to effectively communicate in front of an audience. Good communication, teamwork, confidence building, and fun will be emphasized.  The class will culminate in an informal performance.
