I write on behalf of Greener Leith to object to the demolition of this building.
It is a unique part of the cultural landscape and built heritage of Leith.
The building, as it is currently used, plays a valuable role in promoting a diverse and vibrant neighbourhood.
To demolish this building and force the current users elsewhere would be detrimental to the range of employment opportunities provided locally.
Furthermore, demolition of this building and its subsequent replacement with a development of the type proposed does little to enhance the status or quality of The Leith Conservation Area.
We would wish to see a development proposal that retains far more of the outer fabric of the current building intact, and we urge the City of Edinburgh Council to work with potential developers to achieve this.
Simply incorporating two of the carved stone panels into a new development is not, in our view, sufficient.
