Charlotte Lee Towzey, 86, June 13,1930 - December 6, 2016
Charlotte L. “Babe” Towzey passed away peacefully on December 6, 2016 at IU Health Bloomington Hospice House after a long illness at home.
Charlotte was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Raymond Merle and Claire Walker Towzey. She graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati. She is survived by her husband, Robert Sabino Selvaggi; her sister, Marion (Dr. James) Hildebrand of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Barbara (Robert) Holmes of Wilmington, Ohio and Patricia (Charles) Gruen of Warsaw, Ohio.
Charlotte met her husband Bob in Miami, Florida and relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1970. She held various clerical jobs and last worked for a political polling firm before moving to a bucolic old farm in Seneca, Maryland where they shared thirty years in paradise before relocating to Bloomington after Bob retired. Charlotte was a kind and gentle soul who loved animals, as all our pets were strays that showed up from time to time, just when needed. She was a great cook, seamstress, companion and possessed an artistic talent. She loved music (opera) old and new. Her memory excelled in this subject. She was politically astute and cared deeply for her fellow citizens, now embarked on a perilous journey she foresaw long before most of us. She had a great sense of humor and a maturity derived from within and shared with all who knew her. She was one of the giants that walked among us leaving no discernible footprints, but her spiritual love and beauty that soar into the light.
A private memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
