Pigeon Point

Fifth Grade Overnight Field Trip

Dear Parents,

We will be taking an overnight field trip to the Pigeon Point Lighthouse on the San Mateo Coast. Students will be exploring their natural environment through outdoor lab activities and observations. We will tide pool, hike through the redwoods, and view Ano Nuevo State Reserve’s elephant seals. Activities will relate to marine biology, redwood ecology, conservation, zoology, and coastal cultural history.

Students will need to be at school no later than 8:00 am. When students arrive, they should take their labeled gear directly to the bus. We will be on the coast, so be prepared for cold, windy weather. All students must have a warm coat or a windbreaker.  If rain is in the forecast, students should have a waterproof jacket and please have all belongings wrapped in labeled garbage bags. (See attached supply list for more details.) Be sure to pack a bag lunch for the first day, all other meals are included in the cost. Please read through and fill out the attached information provided by the Pigeon Point Program. This explains the items needed for the trip, location, and facilities, health and safety, discipline policy, medication policy, and a brief explanation of the program.

Students will return to Fairlands at about 3:00. Please pick up your child at this time, or send a note if your child will be going home with someone else.
