In poetry, authors use many different ways to convey their feeling to impact the audience. In both poems, the author uses poetic devices such as tone and mood, and also poetic organization to impact the audience and express their feeling. In the first poem “Forever Friends” by Janilyn B. Rentillo, the author conveyed different thesis about friend and friendship in each stanza, and points out the main theme at last, which is true friendship will never end even apart. The expression of tone and mood helps the author convey his/her feeling, change the situation and advanced impact the audience. In the last line of the first stanza, the author conveys his/her feeling by the happiness about finding a true friend. The author is happy because even though true friends are hard to find, he/she found a true friend which came to him/her in a perfect time that he/she would treasures him/her. In the second line of the fourth stanza, the author expresses his/her sadness by the tone and mood. By the applier of the tone and mood, it becomes more obvious that the author is sad because it’s time to say goodbye to his/her friends. In the last line of the fourth stanza, the author changed the situation from negative to positive by the tone and mood. The author believed that true friendship will never end so he/she told his/her friend to not cry. From the second and third evidence above, you can find out that tone and mood changed the situation from negative to positive. In the second poem “Shine” by AnitaPoems.com, the author used a rhyme scheme named couplet (AABB) to set up and transparence the thesis. The applier of poetic devices makes texts more interesting and easier to remember what is the author writing about. The entire poem “Shine” contains many poetic devices, for example, repetition, alliteration, simile and tone. The applier of repetition repeats the same text in the first, third and fifth stanza gives the audience a profound impression by setting up a rhythm. The applier of alliteration makes reading texts more interesting. Alliteration repeats a same sound in every line to create a rhythm and also makes the reader easier to memorized the poem. The applier of simile compares familiar objects we knew in our life so it could be easier to comprehend. For example, from the second line, the audience can understand what does it mean to “share life” with other by having oxygen in the air as an example. The applier of tone can change the mood and define the audience. In the last line, the author uses tone to make sure the audience understand the theme. Using adequate poetic devices and good poetic organization conduces readers to understand the poem easier.
