HS Gym Tech Talk: Week 1 - Building a Routine

Vault  

Coaches must inform the judge what vault the gymnast is planning to perform.  Judges will judge the vault the gymnast actually performs.  Example:  The coach calls a ½ on, full off (SV 9.2) but the gymnast performs a ½ on, ½ off (SV 9.0). The judge will use the start value of a 9.0 when judging this vault.  

Bars 

Difficulty (total 3.0): 

-4 medium elements (0.3 each = 1.2)

-3 superior elements (0.5 each = 1.5)

-1 high superior elements (0.3 = 0.3)

Event Requirements (total 1.0 - deduction is 0.2 for each one omitted):

-Superior release/flight element (excludes dismount)

-360 clear hip circle, stalder circle, or pike sole circle that ends in a clear support

-Kip

-Element that achieves (within 20 degrees) or passes through vertical in a stretched position

-Superior dismount

Composition (total 0.6)

-Lack of variety of elements (up to 0.20)

-Lack of two bar changes (0.10)

-Lack of using all spaces and levels (up to 0.10)

-Lack of distribution (up to 0.10)

-Lack of element with a direction change, excluding mount and dismount (0.10)

 

Execution (total 4.6)

Bonus (max 0.8)

3 Categories of bonus allowed.

  1. Up to a maximum of 0.40
  1. 0.20 for one advanced high superior provided no fall or spot
  2. 0.20 for a second, different advanced high superior (no fall/spot)
  1. 0.20
  1. 0.20 for one high level back to back superior, same or different
  1. Up to a maximum of 0.20 - credit may be earned any of the following ways:
  1. 0.10 each - low level back to back superior, same or different
  2. 0.20 - a second high level back to back superior, same or different
  3. 0.20 - a third, different advanced high superior (no fall/spot)

Beam

Difficulty (total 3.0): 

-4 medium elements (0.3 each = 1.2)

-3 superior elements (0.5 each = 1.5)

-1 high superior elements (0.3 = 0.3)

Event Requirements (total 1.0 - deduction is 0.2 for each one omitted):

-Minimum 360 degree turn on one foot

-One acro flight element (must start and finish on the beam)

-Acro series of Difficulty (both elements must start and finish on the beam)

-Dance series or Mixed series (acro and dance - no body waves or balances)

-Superior dismount

Composition (total 0.6)

-Lack of variety of acro and dance (up to 0.20)

-Lack of balance in quantity and level of acro vs. dance (up to 0.10)

-Lack of an acro element in each of two different directions (up to 0.10)

-Lack of level change and lack of distribution (up to 0.10)

-Lack of artistry/choreography (up to 0.10)

Execution (total 4.6)

Bonus (max 0.8)

3 Categories of bonus allowed.

-Twisting Salto - at least ½ (180 degrees)

-Three Acro Passes

        -a series consisting of two or more directly connected acro elements

        -a two element pass shall include a back to back superior, a high superior or

            an advanced high superior

-Superior acro element in the third pass or as the last acro element

-One turn on one foot of at least superior difficulty

-Dance Passage, directly or indirectly connected,  that includes both a superior and a leap (cross/side)

Composition (total 0.6)

-Lack of variety of acro and dance (up to 0.20)

-Lack of balance in quantity and level of acro vs. dance (up to 0.10)

-Lack of an acro element, within a pass, in each of 2 diff. directions (up to 0.10)

-Lack of use of entire floor area and lack of distribution (up to 0.10)

-Lack of artistry/choreography (up to 0.10)

Execution (total 4.6)
