Project Description and Fuel Reduction Strategies
On May 23, 2016, FIREsafe MARIN was granted funding for fire fuel reduction projects throughout Marin County. In Mill Valley, several projects were identified affecting PG&E infrastructure to reduce the fire fuel load adjacent to residential structures. Of the projects submitted, the Seaver Ave to Roque Moraes fuel reduction project was approved.
On July 18, 2016, Mill Valley Fire Department met with the property owner and walked the property to discuss scope of work. Scope of work included:
- Removal of all overgrown vegetation, including annual grasses, scotch broom and pampas grass on approximately 8 acres in size.
- The limbing of trees 10’ off the ground
- 10’-20’ fuel reduction along fencelines
- 10’ fuel reduction along roadway
Beginning on July 25, 2016 and ending on August 8, 2016 all identified work was completed and supervised by Battalion Chief Scott Barnes All vegetation cut was chipped and removed from the property. A final inspection was performed by Battalion Chief Scott Barnes and confirmed all aspects of the scope of work was completed.
