Recommendations for Quick SetUp for Dell Venue

BEFORE YOU START, YOU NEED YOUR STUDENT ID NUMBER AND YOUR AERIES PASSWORD (the information you use to log into any RHS computer) FYI:  AERIES EMAIL MUST BE THE EMAIL ADDRESS THAT YOU WILL USE (if you don’t, then downloading stuff will get complicated)

INITIAL TABLET SETUP

Screen Headings are listed in bold and in order:

TO MAKE YOUR SCHOOL/AERIES EMAIL DELIVER TO THE MAIL ICON ON THE START SCREEN:

  1. Once your tablet opens to Start Screen (the tiles)
  2. Select the MAIL icon/tile
  3. It will say that you need to verify your account and it will send or have sent an email to your school AERIES email. Access that email account on a second device.  Find the email and click on it. There will be a blue button that needs to be clicked on that says something about VERIFY THIS ACCOUNT. OR IT WILL SAY “ADD EMAIL ACCOUNT” STEP 5
  4. It will prompt you to log in again. Do it using your school/AERIES account information.
  5. Go back to your mail tile and it should state ‘ADD EMAIL ACCOUNT”
  6. If it states that “It couldn’t find email account (with your info)”, THEN
  7. Choose the type:  EAS...Exchange ActiveSync and then choose CONNECT
  8. Make my PC More Secure: Choose “Enforce these policies”
  9. It will process and then ask “WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD AN ACCOUNT”  If you want to have all of your email accounts dump into this one area, choose yes and add them.  If not, click ‘NO THANKS”
  10. If you did this correctly, you will be able to download free, appropriate apps from the Store and receive all of your school/AERIES email by just clicking the “MAIL” tile on the start menu.

CHROME/GOOGLE APPS:

  1. Go to start menu or desktop and open Internet Explorer (the Big blue E)
  2. In the search bar, type ‘download chrome”
  3. When the search results come up, choose “download” under the Chrome entry.
  4. “Accept” the necessary license agreement and choose “yes” to download and run the installer
  5. It will eventually come up with a “chrome” download timer screen
  6. Then once downloaded and installed, you will be prompted to choose Chrome as your default browser--do this!!
  7. Open Chrome, sign in to your gmail and you are set to access all of your Google apps.

**If a student didn’t follow the directions and “majorly messed up, “ students can go to “settings” and select “Change PC Settings” and choose to do a recovery. If the student chooses to do a recovery, he/she needs to realize that s/he will lose pictures, music, apps, etc.

INFORMATION FROM RHS REGARDING OFFICE 365 SOFTWARE/DOWNLOADS:

Please remember 1) there are several ways to download, this is only one way.  2) once students download, students still need to install the apps from their app list. 3) All students can use the web version by just signing in to their email account WITHOUT  downloading it to their tablets.  Yes, they also can download to 5 different devices.  Information in pink is from Ms. Petty and not officially from RHS.  If you have any questions, let Mrs. Richardson know.

Downloading Office 365 Software to your computer or tablet

It is important to download the full version of Office 365 (If your teacher requires it.  Ms. Petty only requires Chrome and Google apps which are automatically accessible once you download Chrome and sign in to your gmail for Ms. Petty’s class) . If you use the online version, or the app version, it may not have all of the capabilities of the full version. You have 5 licenses to use as you see fit. You may also deactivate one download to use it on a different device.

  1. Open internet browser.
  2. Use this url:  http://outlook.com/owa/smjuhsd.org
  3. Sign in to your school email account--Username is your AERIES email:  IDNumber@students-smjuhsd.org
  4. Password:  Use your AERIES password
  5. Click the WHEEL (looks like a gear or spoked tire) in the upper right corner next to the “?”
  6. Open the tab “Office 365 Settings”
  7. Open the “Software” tab on the left
  8. Select “Install”

Please note that once you download it onto your tablet, the download does take up some of your hard drive /memory. Also, in settings, you can change the theme/background, manage your start page & notifications.
